Default Battery "solution" for Tour (for now...)

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, I am a HEAVY DUTY Tour user. I have 24\7 weather apps running, leave Bluetooth on all day, on BES so I am getting emails and "stuff" pushed at me all day long....oh yeah, I love SLACKER RADIO and usually have it running in the background for a good part of the day as well. This usage used to KILL my battery by around 3pm every day. (Go FIGURE) Anyway, I have found a solution that seems to keep me Touring along with the way I wish RIM had designed it in the first place. I have swapped the wimpy 1000mah battery for a 2300mah battery (it is the replacement battery you can buy for the Storm.) Now, it is only a HAIR thicker than the original battery but still sticks out too much for the door to close on the back. SOOOOO, I cut my door in two (to protect cards and "innards") and put on a silcone cover to protect the phone and keep battery from falling out. LIFE IS GREAT with a phone that stays working as long as I do. NOW if only RIM would come out with the same life battery or more, and keep it thin enough to not have to damage the door. Of course, if you ever want to sell phone, replacement Tour battery doors are only $20 from a lot of sites.

Cheers.

Have you tried the 1600mah battery? How does it hold up to the onslaught of your phone? Lol

Seidio Online will be shipping a 2600mAh battery on 9/4. I'm considering one of these myself, provided it does not require one of those hump-back covers.

edit: looks like it will ship with a hump-back batter cover.

By how much difference would 1600mAh battery make? I know for sure 2600mAh would make a WHOLE lot difference.

The Storm battery I am using is a 2300mah and it has all the life I need and really does not stick up enough for a "hump" battery door if you dont mind using a silicone or other type of case.

2300? Do you mean 2600mAh?

Actually, no. It is a 2300mah battery. It and a door were $40 (even though the door is for a Storm, I just put it away.) I saw the 2600mah version but it looked a lot thicker than this battery did and I didnt want TOO big of a hump in the back of the phone.

Good suggestions above. I simply bought an extra battery and external charger

Yeah, I had another battery but because the Tour takes like 45 minutes to reboot after a battery pull (ok, maybe a little exaggeration there,) it was too much of a bother.

I'm always near a car or a wall charger so life is pretty simple. However, I use Jive Talk and bluetooth heavily and never had the original battery die before getting home with-out a charge.

I may still be interested in that hump-back battery just for shtz and giggles though

Anyone try that Seidio 1600mAh battery? It fits inside the Tour. I had a Seidio extended battery for my Pearl and it was a big improvement but for $50 it gave me more than a 10% improvement. The standard Tour battery is rated at 1450mAh. I also do not want a hump on the back of the phone.

I'm curious too. Came from the Bold, so I'm used to two days worth of battery life. With the Tour, I'm usually hitting the Low Battery warning by the time I'm off work. I'm not a fan of the hump either, and the Tour is just plain sexy to want to mess with it!

1000? Are you sure? The battery that came with my Tour is a 1400 mAh.

Turn brightness down to 80% or less and Backlight time out to 30sec or less. Made a huge difference. (I use 70% brightness and 20sec backlight)

You want to see battery life testing? Let your six-year-old watch Sprint TV ... Why did they put all those Disney shows on there?

Thumbs down Tour Battery life sux

I have a Tour, upgraded from Curve whose battery lasted 2-3 days without a charge. I cannot go 16 hours without re-charging the Tour and I use about 10 minutes of voice and only minimal text/email per day and it still dies by the day's end. I turned off BlueTooth and now I can make it overnight, but it is usually dead by early AM. This is not good.

I'm hoping for a bigger battery that doesn't require a case mod. Swapping batteries on a daily basis has never been necessary on any previous Blackberry, so why should I start now?

RIM, what's going on? Are you listening?
