Just curious what some of you are doing in regards to pushing multiple applications to various groups of users.

Let's say you had a default application you wanted to push to everyone (Bloomberg, Google Maps) and then another application you wanted to push to a sub-set of these users (Mobile Remedy) and another to legacy devices only (DST Patch). In lieu of RIM not offering multiple application configuration assignments until BES 5.0 (reportedly), how are you handling this sort of issue today without it becoming a management nightmare?

P.S. How is your Mobile Remedy working - we have issues trying to get to links of our Remeyd program (not Mobile remedy though). This might be the answer for our on-the-go approvers.

Curious how you are restricting applications by ID? I didn't see a setting for that with Web Desktop Manager?

I have to agree though .. OTA application deployment is not fully baked.

Well, the one solution we've tried was tailor-made for an out-of-the-box Remedy implementation with no customization. Unfortunately, our customizations broke that product. We're looking into other solutions now.

They have to logon to the website with their network credentials (web server guy says it can be done...).

We haven't gotten to Remedy yet but are looking at a couple...

Luckily even though we have a lot of different apps, I can for the most part group them into executive, technical, general, accounting type groups so that is how my software configs are defined. and yes it's stupid cause most apps are overlapped between groups with sometimes only a 1 app difference. For example executive group might have 5 apps to push out and technical has 4 apps, all the same executive has but minus one.

Of course I have a couple users that need something special so they need their own app config. I really hope they just let you assign whatever multiple apps you need per user in bes 5.0. should've have been that way from the start, not sure why they designed it this way, someone wasn't thinking clearly.

Unfourtunately there really is no easy way to do it. You would have to create a software config that allow Bloomberg alone, then one that allows google alone, then both together. The more applications the more configs. To further complicate things, to create a white list you need the .cod files of an application. Since Google does not publish these, there is no way to whitelist the google app (that I'm aware of). I've found it's easier to just allow third party applications on the devices and if anything Blacklist the apps you want to block.

Managing it by thanking god that not a lot of our customers use software configurations. For those that do, we have multiple configs for the various apps they use. Its a nightmare of a process ... and because of that we charge extra for it.

we have serveral groups and each group has its own IT Policy and sofware configuration tied to it. We offer about 8 differents types of software and we have 4 groups with 5 IT Polices and about 2000 users. It could grow to be a management nightmare
