Please Login to Remove!

Hi...

My blackberry 8800 just keeps saying scanning for satellites when i go to advanced options->GPS->Refresh GPS

and after a while returns with no satellites. What could be the cause of this?

ps. I have tried this in multiple locations

Genvej, has it worked in the past with this unit?

Pull the battery and reboot the BlackBerry, then try the gps again.

If still not, post back.

Does your carrier support the gps feature?

Do you have a BB Data Plan from your carrier?

I've seen the same issue in the past - pull the battery out of your 8800, wait a couple of secs. and put it back in.
Did the trick for me

Service provider says they definately supports it. My company has the BES server locally... could it be a configuration not set properly or default? No policy on the phone

I tried it on 2 different phones without any luck

There is NO security policy on the phone?

The user above says his works, assuming same carrier.

What does your BES admin say?

well...this is pretty weird and could be far fetched. However it worked on 3 phones.

I went to a pretty high location outdoors and tried again. It worked fine after a while. From then on the GPS worked everywhere. This was the case of 3 phones. Neither would work without me starting them from the "satellite friendly" environments

Outside in wide open spaces - hold the BB away from your body. In fact put it on the ground, step away and go hug someone for a few mintues.

I would love more information as I can not get the GPS to work in my 8110. Did you get it to work in Options->Advanced->GPS->Refresh Status? or just some application like BB maps?

I am in India, where GPS is not that great. But with the help of thsi post I got it working - take out the battery, go to a location where it is under blue sky (and signal is there), like your terrace, and turn it on - and GPS locates satellite - and it is cool - it works. Awesome everything is possible in blackberry forum. Keep up the good work
