I'm pretty sure it's a law that all cell phones (at least in the US) can dial 911. I believe, but have never tried it, that you can even call 911 from a phone that doesn't have service.

That is true. I haven't tried it either (thankf goodness) but have been told (and read) that even when a phone is deactivated it can still dial out to 911.

This is true, it is actually an FCC mandate (at least in the US)

No, there is no way to turn that off or make it so it is not an option on the unlock screen.

You hack it.
You seem resourceful enough... since you managed to get your hands on a 9130 and all.

This non-alterable feature is part of the reason why, when you are looking to get rid of old phones, women's shelters, etc. will gladly take them. You can make a call from any cell phone to emergency services at any point in time, with or without a plan. That is what that Emergency services fee is for on your bill.
Also, in the years I have been dealing with Blackberry phones, I have *never* heard of anyone accidentally making an emergency call from their device.

It asks you "Are you sure you wish to make an emergency call?" when you choose the option from the unlock screen.

Yeah, I have called the emergency number many times while the phone was in my pocket. 911 has even called me back afterwards and I didnt even realize I called them. My coworkers have all had the same problem as well. You even go into emergency call back mode after you accidentally call them.

plus 2!
My daughter also liked to call them.....
I just put the phone into stand-by mode...so much easier that way.

My phone has done this THREE times in the last week. It's incredibly annoying and it's VERY stupid if there's no way to remove this "feature".

I believe this feature is required by law so that you can easily call for help if you need it.
Darn laws.
