We are on BES 4.1.4.16 and we receive a nightly warning @ midnight pertaining to userdump.exe.
Running on Windows 2003 platform and Exchange.

The description for Event ID ( 20000 ) in Source ( BlackBerry Controller ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: [CFG] Controller won't generate userdump files. Userdump.exe not found..


does anyone have an answer on this?

Userdump.exe is a Microsoft utility and it can be used for the BES it's not necessary and it's nothing to worry about.

It's not being used and the file generated by userdump.exe is gibberish unless you knwo what you are looking for. I've seen the file once and I was lost.

That is a common warning to see and it's not caused by anything to be worried about.

Problem
When the BlackBerry Controller is restarted, or the log cycle restarts, the following error is logged in the Application log:


[CFG] Controller won't generate userdump files. Userdump.exe not found.

Cause
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server is configured to use the userdump.exe when an error occurs.

Resolution
Download and install User Mode Process Dumper 8.1 utility from Microsoft Corporation.
