Default Estimate of average VeriChat data usage

Please Login to Remove!

I am on Rogers (for now) and am concerned about my data usage cap.

Wondering is someone who uses VeriChat regularly (on a light basis) and has it on for several hours every day can comment on their data usage?

Thanks.

Shane

Hi Shane

I am logged into AIM and MSN with Verichat 24/7, using about 30MB a month for this application alone. This amount appears to be independent of how much chatting I actually do. Mark Rejhon reported that same number some time ago elsewhere in here.

ok, thanks for the clarification. my usage won't be anywhere near 24/7, so i should be ok even with Rogers' 25 mb cap.
I remember Mark mentioning it before- his usage was through the roof and had a rediculous bill to show for it if i recall correctly! What ever came of that? Did Rogers give in at all?

I was more interested in verichat only usage. Thanks for quantifying it for me, shadowbox.

Arrow It's not included WHAT!

Hey guy's. I am on a Nextel unlimted data plan. Am I under the impression that Verichat is not covered by that unlimited data plan? If not I should slow down a bit.

Data is data and Verichat falls under that for usage....I dont see it being different, if you havent noticed anything on your bill then you should have no worries with having the unlimited data plan.

smurf: it's data. but in my case (and for anyone on the Rogers network), unlimited is not truly that, but rather capped at 25mb/month-- the cost of exceeding that is steep.

When you guys talk about verichat using 'data', do you mean email or tcp/ip? I'm with Vodafone UK, who only include core Blackberry functionality (i.e. email) in their data plan. 'Internet' is charged separately along with wap.

blackberry email is goes over data and is charged as such on North American carriers. Browser, internet, tcp/ip apps, email, etc is all treated similarly as data.

Thing is, Vodafone data excludes everything but email. I was wondering whether Verichat uses tcp/ip (in which case I'd be charged for it as 'internet'), or email. WebMessenger, for example, advertises that it uses email transport.
