I currently have a several Blackberry phones in my small office. I need two apps, can someone please let me know if they know of any?

1) SIP client that I can attach to my local Asterisk server, I've looked high and low and can't find anything.

2) A calendar app that can connect to my local calendar server, I don't/can't/won't use google calendar. I'm currently running Bedework Calendar, which is compliant with all the standards, so this shouldn't really be that hard of a request.

Any input would be great, these are the two apps that have me considering other options right now. As much as I love my BlackBerry, if it can't keep up with the competition, they aren't doing their job.

And thats the problem, it should be the right device for me. RIM used to be ahead of the game, now it seems like they are trying to ride it out w/o much innovation. I don't see the benefit to putting wifi on a phone if all you can do is browse a little faster, the phone is not an optimal browsing tool, chances are if I'm somewhere with wifi, I'll have my laptop. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad wifi is at least starting to make a presence, but inhibiting its abilities doesn't help anyone.

I'm not a big business so my options are limited.

Bedework is an open source calendar solution. In my experience open source solutions mostly suck. It's just that nobody is making any real money on these open source projects so nobody is pushing them. And not enough people are using it to make it worth any major corporations like RIM or MSFT to include support for it in their current software. Even Open Office is mostly spread by word of mouth. And compared to MS Office, it's awful. Free, but awful.

I'd like RIM to support BeOS, which I still run on an old ThinkPad, but how likely is that? Pretty silly if I were to complain that RIM isn't keeping up or being progressive, huh?

Having the ability to choose a calendar server to sync to/from via wifi or over the Internet is not a revolutionary idea... so yea "really".

Thanks komquat, for a reasonable response. I need to have a server internally that my local users can connect to, right now my choices are limited to a stand alone calendar server, open source or not, does it work, that's what matters.

The idea here is to find a solution. Sure everyone can say "oh yea you're the only one that wants that feature", go search for "sip blackberry", there are plenty of other people looking for the same functionality.

Which is completely different than "I need an internal calendar that will sync with my BB and allow others access".

IP BlackBerrys have been around for years It was called the model 7270. It was, in fact, SIP only. Carriers don't like them. They cut into their revenue.

Perhaps a hosted BES solution, using a more commonly used calendar, would fit.

The BlackBerry is the wrong solution for you. I'm not sure there is one that suits your wants and needs.

I simply want the ability to point my calendar app to a custom address. I don't need a calendar solution, I have one. I'd gladly pay for an app that allows for a custom calendar server address.

Again, it sounds like the Blackberry isnt for you.
Not sure any handheld would work with the setup you are running.
