Default Battery drained overnight when switched off

Please Login to Remove!

I set the alarm on my 8300 and switched it off last night - this morning no alarm call! When I tried turning on the handset it was dead, and flipping out the battery made no difference. When I hooked it to the charger, it showed the battery was totally drained, even though it had 75%+ charge when I turned it off.

Only thing I can think is, maybe I holstered the handheld before it had fully turned itself off - could this leave it in some battery-draining 'hung' state? Pretty severe though, if it kills a 3/4 full battery overnight.

More importantly, is this likely to have permanently damaged the life of the battery?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Were you running any applications that could be draining the battery while its idle? I can't think of any but if its an outside app, that might be it.

Also can the alaram work if the phone is off?

Yes, when the alarm is set the BlackBerry should turn itself on when the alarm time comes.

I can only inagine that some active bowser page or other app was running and maybe never turned off. I doubt your battery is damaged.
Allow to drain completel to about 15% the next coupe od times and then fully charge it after each drain. Read the FAQ at the bottom of the main page here "Maximize your battery life"

Good luck.

Its possible the battery is the culprit.

How so - some kind of intermittent fault?

I've since given it a hefty charge and it seems okay, though it's not possible yet to determine whether it has had any impact on long term battery life.

Also, I haven't yet dared try the switched off overnight / wake on alarm thing, in case it nukes the battery again (needed it while i was away!). Will probably try that tomorrow - last time it was no alarm, no phone, drained battery.

Thanks for the feedback.

sirgruff, yes it could be a bad battery--just not likely.

fully drain and fully charge as advised above three times in a row, then continue with your BB use as normal. I suspect you will be fine.

Thanks, I'll definitely try that routine.
