Remember, these acquisitions don't just happen. They've got to be approved by secutiries and exchange comission etc.
I could see Skype for PB even without MS buying them

This is a done deal.
There is no conflict of interest. This is not like AT&T/T-mobile. 100% cash deal. No shareholder approval.

I didn't realize that deals with privately held companies like Skype required SEC approval. Must be a new rule.

The Microsoft/RIM deal is a bit more tenuous than buying Skype. I wouldn't count on seeing Skype for PlayBook anytime soon.

Why is the title of this thread "Skype is coming...not soon, but it's coming" when one (Microsoft buying Skype) has nothing to do with the other (Skype on the BlackBerry PlayBook)?

Naaah, MS may be a dinosaur in an age of flying machines, but they're aite.
Xbox and Hardware departments do quite well. I'm wondering how close the Skype group will be to the MS 'homestead' or if they'll keep it at arms length in order to maintain it.
It would be a horrible idea to rebrand or suddenly make changes.
It is an opportunity, and both Apple and Google buy just as many companies up yearly.... the real situation is what they do with it, and will they end up hurting the brand Skybe has built.

Microsoft said Skype would be a division of Microsoft.
Microsoft plans to integrate Skype technology with the Xbox video gaming system including the Kinect motion-sensing device, and Windows Phone 7 platform. Skype will also find its way with Microsoft's Lync, Xbox Live, Outlook and other online communities.
