Default Curve 8310 crashes, phone call buzzing sounds

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I've had my lovely BB Curve 8310 for about 18 months now and it has been a real star so I'm suprised to say that it started misbehaving about 2 weeks ago.

It shuts itself off randomly - complete crash - you cannot turn it back on without a battery pull (and the looooooong paused which goes with that).

When it comes back, the battery reads very low.

Sometimes if the crash happens during a call you "hear" it will happen as the line goes very bad with distortion noise.

I've done nothing different in the last two weeks.

I upgraded the device to v4.5.0.55 about, hmm, 6 months ago without a hitch. Nothing new since then.

Yes apps go on and off but nothing new there.

Lots of free file space.

There is a 2G SD card in there (as it has done from day one) 5.8%used

This feels to me like a battery issue but why would it crash so spectularly. Could it be that the battery has aged so much?

Hmm...well, I have no recollection of it getting wet. It certainly seems dry as a bone to me!

What was the outcome with you?

I have exactly the same problem; the buzzing, crashes, etc.

Really annoying, BB used to work fine throughout the previous 20 months or so that I've used it.

Any solutions found?

It sounds like you need a new battery!

Let us know how it goes!

I have an 8320 (T-Mobile) and have the same exact problem that started about 2 weeks ago. Random shutdown usually during long conversations. Pulled the battery to reboot. Twice came up battery on red even though I know there were more bars than that when it crashed. Last night was first time where I could not get it to reboot with a battery pull. Pulled the battery twice. Each time would give me the hourglass attempting to boot up, then nothing. All black. Went to a land line, finished conversation (~10 min or so), came back to phone, and was just fine. WTH? No new software upgrade. I suspected the battery so ordered a new one a few days ago and am waiting for it to arrive. Anyone know the cause? Phone did not get wet so I'm at a loss other than gradual battery performance degradation.

Update. Received new battery. Charged it up. Yesterday talked on phone for 45 minutes without it crashing. Also the charge bar seems to be holding up better at the end of the day. If it crashes, I'll post again.

The battery was cheap, I think about $3.50 plus shipping, so if you're still experiencing problems, might as well try to change the battery.
