Thumbs down T-Mobile USA Rebate-ARRRGH!!!!!

Please Login to Remove!

So, today is bittersweet. My new 8900 just arrived from T-Mo, and that makes me happy!

There was a surprise in the box: Apparently, T-Mobile is no longer sending rebate checks....it is sending debit visa cards. This makes me pretty angry. The whole rebate thing is a scam. You aren't actually going to get that $100 rebate to put back into the bank to pay the bill, you actually only get money that you must spend somewhere else. So, the whole $299-100=199 is not true. It is really: spend $299 and you get $100 that you can't use toward the price of the phone, you must go and spend it elsewhere. I can't wait until someone files a class action suit.

Old news. I believe AT&T has also gone to the rebate cards. What difference does it make? Spend the rebate card somewhere you would have spent cash and put the cash toward your bill if you want to.

The language T-Mo uses matters. If they aren't clear about the rebate, Attorney Generals could sue them. Eventually. Law suites take time. Here's T-Mobile's lingo: "For a Limited Time, when you purchase a T-Mobile RIM BlackBerry (fill in the kind) on Unsupported Browser or through 1-877-387-4324 receive a $250 instant discount and $100 Mail-in Rebate." The rebate language can be misleading.

Staples, Office Depot do the same. What better way to infuse the economy then with a debit card vs a rebate? If you received your Bush stimulus check, like a good American, didn't you go out and spend it (on women and booze)?

Yea.. I didn't think so.

you can go to any bank that shows the visa symbol and go to the teller, they will give you cash. I did this with both of my rebates when I got TM506's. you do not need an account just tell them you want to withdrawal the money from the card. There was no questions asked for me. the documentation T-mobile sends you with the rebate card tell you to do this if you want cash, that how I found out.

Wirelessly posted (8320 Titanium)

I used my two 100 dollar rebate cards for my tmo bill. All you have to do is call up tmo cs and they will apply it for you...wasn't a big deal.

The bank tellers were fools! How long ago was this?

Even on the cards it clearly states "not redeemable for cash"

I pray to get a debit card. A card in hand is a hellava lot better than waiting 4-6-8 weeks for a check! And no bothering with filling out S/N, etc.

The cards are a whole lot cheaper. Forget the nonsense about 'Not Redeemable For Cash". As long as it has a MasterCard/Visa logo on it, the card issuer's rules apply, not the cell phone companies.

Banks could care less, as long as the money is in the account. You could also use the money to 'accessorize' your new toy as well.
