Default CBeyond branded 8830 - tethering questions

Please Login to Remove!

First, I have searched with no answers.

I have a client who has a CBeyond branded 8830 World Edition. CBeyond is a VoIP CLEC in several major markets including Atlanta. As part of their packages you can replace on of your package lines and get a Blackberry 8830. It runs on Sprint's network.

I have some specific questions about tethering. I was unable to get tethering to work today using the Sprint connection manager for the 8830 nor manually configuring dial up network. I found some directions here, but no go. I am dialing #777 using no user name or password. Has anyone successfully tethered a Cbeyond 8830?

Also, the clients main objective for tethering is to be able to use tethering in England. He travels there about once per month. Is there a different setup to use tethering over the GSM radio or will all the CDMA setting work transparently?

I had some difficulty getting my Sprint 8830 to tether as well, but it ultimately did. If I remember correctly I had to uninstall the Desktop Manager and all drivers, etc., first, then install the Connection Manager, and then install the Desktop Manager.

As for tethering in the UK, make sure that your client has an international data plan with tethering enabled. With the GSM component I would probably try to have a manual configuration and avoid the Sprint connection manager. Not sure why I say this, just somewhat suspicious of the effect that Connection Manager might have on the process.
