Default Google Apps, Instant Push?

Please Login to Remove!

I know that about a year ago @gmail addresses became direct push for BIS users. Now, if I use Gmail, but with the Google Apps for Domains, where I would be using Gmail, but with some random domain name, would I still be getting push email or would it do the normal polling in fifteen minute intervals.

I'd like to know before I register a new domain and start switching my email off an IMAP server.

You can use the Google mail application for BlackBerry, or simply set up your email via BlackBerry Internet Service.

I assume it would still be push because my college uses this and when I read the setup instructions they gave it says to still point it at gmail.com for the mail just with your username of @your_personal_domain

I setup my college one on here and it went through no issue YMMV, might have to manually configure it on BIS

Correct assumption. With RIM, it is Push no matter what you do. RIM doesn't do anything but Push.

set it up like a normal gmail account but for username it will be username@whatever_domain
example my college one is [email address] but is setup just like a regular gmail account

Setting up a google apps account with a domain other than gmail.com or googlemail.com will not be true push. It will be set up as a standard POP3 account which will be polled at 15 minute or so intervals.

See this thread on getting your apps domain recognized as a true Gmail domain.

And that is true "push", RIM does not do otherwise. You can argue or debate it, but it is push email. BlackBerrys do not "poll" the RIM servers.

No, the Blackberry itself doesn't poll but it's pretty clear from context that it's not what people mean when they say "push" in these instances. It is relevant to people whether or not BIS is polling the attached email server as that does impact email delivery timeframes. That portion of the chain can definitely be pull or push. Though I'm not sure if push is the right term since we have no idea how mail from gmail gets to BIS. It's definitely something faster than typical BIS polling.
