Torch 9800 Help needed :o(
Please Login to Remove!
Hello,
Hopefully there is someone who will know what is wrong with my BB,
I have recently acquired an unlocked 9800 torch, I have just bought a pay as you go SIM card from Vodafone and put it in to try it, every time I try to call out it says " no service currently available" Signal strength is very strong, every thing else seems to work OK, I can connect via wireless to the internet etc.
I've tried battery pull, and upgrading the firmware, now 6.0 bundle 2647 V6.0.0.600 Platform 6.6.0.223)
I tried the SIM I have on my wife's phone (exactly the same phone) and it works, so it is something on the phone.
Anyone come across this one before ?
Any help would be very gratefully received
Cheers

Hi tsac,
It's deffo unlocked, all disabled in the list, I've tried all day to find a solution, I've done my homework, so I wouldn't ask an easily rectified question, but I'm pulling my hair out now !!

Ok , so then the radio may be defective. The WIFI is on a different radio and as you said it works well. Can you return it? If possible I would.
edit
I know it maybe a weird question but did you check to see if the Mobile network is selected on?

Re: Torch 9800 Help needed :o(
is it possible this was a BES corporate phone? unless it's defective it should work. Does it have an IT policy on it? It is possible to block all calls.

No don't think it's that, I have tried ringing the phone and it says "the person is not available"
If I try and emergency call, it says "phone not allowed MM#5"
does that mean anything ?

Re: Torch 9800 Help needed :o(
Ok last thought.
That error code "phone not allowed MM#5" is a message that the function is not allowed or able to be process by the carrier. I would give them a call now. for some reason the BB's IEMI id is being blocked.

Re: Torch 9800 Help needed :o(
do you mean Vodafone ?
I can call them in the morning and ask if they block certain IEMI's and ask them to unblock mine if that's possible
I'll give some feedback tomorrow, Cheers for the help so far, much appreciated

Re: Torch 9800 Help needed :o(
I know the error MM#6 is a barred/blocked device due to being stolen. You may be looking at a device listed as lost/stolen or otherwise blocked.

Re: Torch 9800 Help needed :o(
Yes, thanks, I contacted Vodafone and it seems that MM#5 means that the IMEI number can't be found on their database, No sure what to do to get it put on their database ?
maybe a lost cause
Cheers all :o)

Re: Torch 9800 Help needed :o(
Perhaps the device was a pre-release model that was not intended for the public.

Re: Torch 9800 Help needed :o(
Sounds to me like the IMEI has been blocked for whatever reason. My advice is to cut your losses, return the device and get your money back. Then buy a new one from your carrier or if you want a used one,buy from a reputable source such as our Buy, Sell, Trade section.

Re: Torch 9800 Help needed :o(
It can be blocked or not available to the public for any number of reasons that do not involve the device being stolen. But the user still probably won't be able to use the device.

Re: Torch 9800 Help needed :o(
agreed, My reasoning was the SIM works in another phone and the OP later said he had the error code. Generally the most common reason is the phone is blocked either because it was lost or stolen or maybe even an unpaid bill.
