keep in mind that with additional apps the blackberry becomes even more secure. it "can" be done, but you either have to be the luckiest person in the world or spend then next 20 years brute forcing it with a server farm.

I thought it was Paris' Sidekick not Blackberry that was hacked. BTW, given enough resources, anything can be hacked, but it comes down to how much you're willing to invest. It doesn't seem worth it just for that. good luck tho'.

lol... I love the comments in here Since when are things designed TO be hacked? Like anything, all it takes is a few people who really know what they are doing and the ambition of really wanting to get into it.

I wonder why no one has thought of this before. Hacking a BlackBerry.
I guess no one has bothered.
Right...

The original poster is funny. Come to a site dedicated to BBs and ask how to hack one? That's about as smart as going to Vegas and asking about algorithms used in programming slots. I don't think you're going to garner any tips here.

yeah...that's a failed analogy. He's referring to increasing the usability of the BB, in effect. Not like this whole forum isn't dedicated to the very same. You all should be rooting for him

Hacking the blackberry is increasing its useability? Producing software that will run natively outside the blackberry OS? Accessing the hardware from within the blackberry OS? . . . I think the Vegas analogy was apt. If the blackberry becomes that 'user friendly' or that 'customizeable' I will straight away switch to the new product that enters the market to take the blackberry's place.

It would be interesting to see what the results would be if a contest was announced and the prize was big enough what would happen

the prize is already world recognition and fame, has been since the BB came out. its the same reason why people hack anything, or go after targets that are "impossible to hack".

What a nice thought.
A big prize would not interests the people who would like to hack into RIM. Without a doubt people have already tried to hack into RIM. The prise would be way bigger than any contest. Our goverement and top companies all over the world use RIM. The encryption is so good that even the brightest of hackers have had no success.
It is so easy to sit back with your cool sunglasses and say oh it can be done, maybe if a large prize was offered! LOL! Doing it is another thing! Encryption is a powerful thing!
I and my stock in RIMM that I bought at less than $35, feel confident we are safe. So safe we just bought more!

Could not agree more.
Windows would love to see RIM hacked as their push email system could never compete with RIM. Yep, way more than a prize involved here!

I think it's a stretch to say it's "unhackable". NOTHING is unhackable.
What is more accurate is to say that it would take sufficient resources and sufficient time such that the value of any attack on it is worthless. Security is not about making something unreachable, it's about making it so difficult to get to something that it takes enough time, money, and resources that it becomes unprofitable to do it.
Given millions of dollars, I'm pretty sure someone could find who has access to the signing keys, determine who in the list has the easiest to exploit weakness, and then aim for maximum hurt. My guess RIM is prepped for that, and has thoroughly vetted anyone and everyone who even knows where the keys are kept. They've built a formidable reputation for security, but as a private corporation, I doubt they could fend off a motivated nation-state.

I'm sure Microsoft would be more than thrilled, they would probably offer whoever was able to do it a job.
