Exclamation 8100 Pearl Handheld Software 4.2.1.148 / 4.2.1.94

Please Login to Remove!

Latest 8100 Software - v4.2.1.154 / 4.2.1.96 located here http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-2-1-96-a.html

Rogers has a new OS:

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.1.148 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.1.148
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.2.1.94
Software Platform: 2.3.0.77
File name: 8100M_PBr4.2.1_rel148_PL2.3.0.77_A4.2.1.94_Rogers. exe
File size: 72.91MB

Here's the link:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...C068A355BBA31A

To install this update:
1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager
2. Donwload this OS and install it to the PC.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (this step is necessary any time an OS is installed from a different carrier than what is branded on the BB.)
4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

To add the vendor themes with the Blackberry.alx included in the BlackBerry.zip below. This can be done before or after the upgrade. Recommendations are to do it after the installation of the OS.

1. Download and unzip the file below.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loader files\8100-v4.2.1.94_P2.3.0.77
2. Find the Blackberry.alx and rename it Blackberry.old (you can delete the old one but this allows you to restore it easily if necessary)
3. Copy the new Blackberry.alx you unzipped into this same folder where the old Blackberry.alx was.
4. Now connect the BB and run Desktop Manager and open Application Loader. You should see that "core applications" says "upgrade." Finish the installation.

Note: You do not use the "add" feature in Application Loader for this process.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry Pearl (8100): Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.6306/1662; en; U; ssr))

Jibi,

Can you edit the blackberry.alx file so we can unlock the themes?

Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

It's not hard to do, I can do it when I get home in a few, it'll just need to be hosted somewhere.

Just finished install, looks good! Very similar to the Italy release, but in my case the italian release actually slowed my phone to a crawl....specifically the media card.
This release does not have that slow down. Also I found that the Italian relase used about 2 meg more than my .79 release that I had on the phone. This Rogers release is the same as the italian, it uses 2MB more free space.
I can play movies (.3gp) that on the italian release rebooted my phone.

...so at least for now, it looks GOOD!
This release has fixed the bugs that the italian release had (at least on my phone)

Default Where's my post!

Hey all! Just wrote a slightly lengthy and passionate reply to this post and for some reason it never showed up! Anyhow, without repeating myself in case it does show up later, DO NOT download the latest firmware as it has the same repeating letter problem as the Italian version does when trying to enter text.
get it together RIM......please!!!

You unzip that file. Then replace the blackberry.alx with the edited one in this directory:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8100-v4.2.1.94_P2.3.0.77

OMG!!!!, i was so excited to see a new OS release but the reason i skipped TIM OS was due to the problem you've mentioned. Oh well, i guess ill stick to 4.2.0.73.

P.S. RIM, do i need to go there and show you the repeating " MultiTap" letter problem? JESUS!!!!!!!!!

I'm still going to miss out on the new features, Blah!
