Unhappy TMO BlackBerry 8320 & AOL Instant Messenger

Please Login to Remove!

I just started using the 8320 and all the messaging services except AIM work great, BlackBerry Messenger, ICQ, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo, and Google Talk.

When I select AOL Instant Messenger it gives me a sign on screen and everything. When I click sign on it pops up a dialogue box that reads xxx8220;Please visit www.blackberry.com/aim to activate your handheld for AOL Instant Messenger.xxx8221;

I went to that site from my 8320 and followed the instructions and selected download. Then it says:

xxx8220;Notice
Sorry, your wireless Service Provider does not allow access to AOL Instant Messenger for your BlackBerry for your device.xxx8221;

What is the deal? If you have this device, are you able to use AIM successfully? Side note: this device has as blank poilcy and has NOT ever been on a BES, no only BIS.

Thanks!
-Bryan

EDIT (9/25/07): The curve is now available for device selection on my.t-mobile.com. If you are having problems with your messaging clients not working please make sure you have logged into the site and changed your device to the 8320. After that resend your service books. Finally, take out the battery while the phone is still on and do a hard cycle (optional but reccomended).
-----
EDIT (9/29/07): It's confirmed, 8320's built in messaging clients are only using data, NOT SMS.

You have a T-Mo 8320 already? Or is it an unlocked 8320 from ATT?

AT&T doesn't have an 8320. T-Mobile is releasing the device with all IM clients enabled. There may be a service book issue with the AIM client, though. I'd recommend calling T-Mobile.

it is a tmo service issue as noted, there is no access to those apps till monday. sadly this was one of the problems of the device being launched early. we all get too look at the possibilities but not use them... but we can enjoy the rest...

I'd be curious to see how these apps will be made available (and if) for individual download for T-Mobile customers (i.e., those of us with 8300's), or if they'll wind up in later releases of the 8300 OS. I'm using JiveTalk also, but I'd at least like the opportunity to check out the standard T-Mobile software offering.

I didn't do anything at all but try to sign in. I didn't even visit the blackberry.com/aim.

Maybe try resending your service books:
Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (Press the BlackBerry button) Select 'Register Now'

It probably won't hurt to also do a hard reset by pulling the battery after you send the service books.

Let me know if you have any luck.
