Default Moving BES to Amazon EC2

Has anyone here done this yet?

With our current DR plan, we have a 4-6 hour window before BES is active again after we declare. We want something better, so we started looking at cloud. In particular, EC2. During a time of emergency, e-mail is the most crucial app and we'd like it running 24x7 including blackberry.

We already plan on clustering our e-mail servers (Domino) to an EC2 instance. Testing so far has been great. I've been impressed with the speed (given our limited and overextended bandwidth), especially server access to databases.

We currently are using 5.0.3 with an external MSSQL DB. Last year, we changed our phone policy and allowed users to get iPhones. Our BB count went from over 200 to around 40. There is no need to have our DB on MSSQL Server 2005 anymore, and we don't have the need to have one in our VPC at this time.

I'm looking at the best way to move our BES to an EC2 instance with as little interruption or change for the users as possible.

My plan of thought is to do the following:
  • Create Windows 2008 AMI
  • Install Domino Server
  • Give server same name as current BES
  • Follow xxx-304. ibm. com /support/ docview.wss?uid=swg21087009 IBM Steps to reinstall a Domino server or to move a Domino server from one machine to another - United States to move Domino Configuration
  • Use xxx. blackberry. com /btsc/ KB10364 -Set up disaster recovery for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server in an IBM Domino environment -Set up disaster recovery for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server in an IBM Domino environment as a baseline for "recovery"

The problem I have is the DB. Should I install SQL 2005 Express on our BES Server now and move the DB? Can I move to full server to express by following these steps: xxx. blackberry. com /btsc/KB03112? -How to move the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a new Microsoft SQL Server instance -How to move the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a new Microsoft SQL Server instance

Any other thoughts/suggestions/recommendations?
