Default Bold doesn't connect to Secured home Wi-Fi

Please Login to Remove!

I sufficiently searched and found nothing that works so here goes...

I have a BB Bold 9000 on AT&T with unlimited texts, and web and email. I am running OS 4.6.0.237 (platform 4.0.0.197)
I have a Netgear WPN824v3 Wireless MIMO router for my home network. I can see the network and it says that it is my active network under Manage Connections, however it only gives me a - sign instead of a check mark. The error I get is: Unable to find the requested server, even though its google.com or crackberry.com. I have changed the channel on my home network to one that no one else in range is using. On the WiFi Diagnostics screen everthing looks good till the connecting part, where i have a red x or the - sign. It never makes it to authentication of the router or server. I have also tried designating the BB MAC address through the wireless gateway as a static IP address, but I'm not sure I did it right, but no luck the way I had it. Any ideas?

And yes I know i can use my data plan to connect to the internet but my wifi is much faster than the 3g that att has to offer.

I am using WPA-PSK [TKIP] for security encryption. Does BB not support this? I tried the router and BB with WEP too and no luck. But when I leave the network open with no security its connects just fine.

Edit: After some searching on BB.com, WPA-PSK [TKIP] is supported supposedly.
Here is what I get when I run Wi-Fi Diagnostics:

It is failing to connect to the blackberry infastructure, not your router.
Try going to options>advanced>host routing table. Go to wi-fi entry and click menu>register now.
See if that fixes it.

Try a battery pull also.

Are you entering your security ID key on the BB in "text" or in "hexadeicmal." Look at the router and get your key in HEX format and enter it on the BB that way. I use 26 "1's" as my hex key so it's easier to enter. Using my "text" format key never worked.

Also, I use WPA-PSK and have no problem. Also no problem with the "text" key.

As said above, it is connecting to the router fine, because it says network acquired. What you are not connecting to is the Blackberry infastructure, which is why you cant surf the web.

Are you on a Blackberry data plan? Do you get emails pushed to you when not on Wifi?

I know you stated in your initial post that you had unlimited email and web, but since you didn't specifically mention a Blackberry data plan, I'm asking now.

Tried. No Avail!
To answer some other questions, Yes I have a Blackberry data plan with AT&T without exchange or enterprise. I used to be an att rep, and I can tell you the soc code is BI1A and it is currently on my account. Just double checked.

Right so how do I Fix it. I know the router will connect because I even made it telnet the connection in DOS. Im thinking of trying to set it to a static IP on the Router like my Printer is, but I dont know if I have all the right settings. I keep trying different things but no luck.

Ok, it is not a setting on the router.

I have no idea why then, if you have the blackberry data plan, and you click register now and you are getting an email saying "your blackberry has been registered to the wireless network"; that it is not connecting to the wireless network.
All i know is that it is not a problem with your router.

OK, good to know. I do get the message saying that it has been registered with the network, however if I turn off the cellular network and try to send registration with the host routing table, it tells me that a the message has been qued (sp) for when cellular data is available.

if your wi-fi was working, it may go through that, but because wi-fi is not working AND data is off, it won't do it.

The next thing (the only other thing) i can suggest is that the provisioning service book is set up wrong, or possibly you need to re-send service books via the BIS page.

If that doesnt work, i'm out, but im sure mckinneycm or klotar might be able to help further.

^Agreed. It seems like you've explored almost every other avenue, and resending the service books will sometimes help Wi-Fi/BlackBerry data connection problems. I know it's solved problems for me in the past. It's worth a shot.

I'm trying to have the service books resent as we speak. I was told that when you register with the network that the service books get resent. so I dunno.

You can resend them yourself by logging into your BIS account at: BlackBerry Internet Service

Here is what the rep from blackberry had me do.
Go to options<mobile network<menu<diagnostic test<run
He checked something on his end
Power cycle the phone
He reset the blackberry networks infastructure
.......and finally came to the conclusion that it has to do with the router and possible automatically setting up a firewall when the network has a security encryption key...
uhhh what?! I looked in the router settings and didn't find anything about a firewall. Does this make sense to anyone?

If you have time and don't mind experimenting you should change the router to WEP, then obtain the Hex value of the passphrase and try entering it in the HandHeld. I am betting that you can get it going.

Have you tried deleting that Wi-Fi profile and setting it up from scratch again? I know it's a stretch, but again, worth a shot.

Nope, because the wi-fi diag says "network acquired" which suggests its connected to the router.
It just doesn't allow the BB infrastructure to connect.

Dumb question, have you tried restarting the router?
When I first got my bold, it wouldn't connect at all, and I restarted the router and it was fine.

It sounds as though connecting to the router is fine, but that the router OR the ISP won't let you then go on to connect to BB. E.G. Like the router is connected to the PC, and says that it has a connection, but it wont let you connect to google.

I dont think a static IP address will help, but allowing the BB mac address through the "wireless MAC address filtering" may be a solution.
