Default Need help with 7100t

Helping my girlfriend find a replacement cellphone. What we like so far is the 7100t and it will do just about all that she wants. However, TMobile cannot answer one question. It's clear that the 7100t does not come with software that allows you to transfer documents from your laptop to the 7100t and then view the document (i.e.: *.doc, *.xls...etc). It costs another $20 a month to get the internet/email service (dialup) to send documents to yourself. It's clear you can view the different documents if you do this option as there is a viewer. But, Blackberry says you cannot do this without paying the $20 and emailing it to yourself. The guys at TMobile think that Blackberry is open source and certainly there is something "out there" to fit the bill to download and install. Is there? Suck to buy a phone and only learn you can't do what you want. Not interested in paying the extra $20/month. She'll use this feature enough but not to pay the additional cost.

Ideas? Could sure use some help.

Thank you..

What they meant to say is that the BlackBerry is a proprietary, closed system, with some (not a lot) of third party software, and very little of that is free.

Getting a BlackBerry for any reason besides wireless e-mail makes little sense. That is the strongest point of any BlackBerry.

Find another TMO store while you're at it

Depending on how much she wants to use Office-type docs....a pocketpc can handle them pretty well, almost as well as a desktop if you are willing to pony up some dough for SoftMaker programs.

She needs to determine exactly how she is going to use it for these docs...is it worth a PPC smartphone? (which have quirks) or maybe a separate PDA and phone?

hmm...

Well, we're hoping to not have to buy a PDA and cell phone. She doesn't need all the features of a PDA as she only needs to see the files she's created on her laptop and then later view them on the job site. The 7100t does everything she wants but transfer files from her laptop and then view them.

She doens't want to spend the money on the PDA/cell phone units as good ones are very expensive.

Anyone know where I can look for freebies?
