SignalLoc also brings up BBMaps...

SignalLoc: 0.1.710 - Web (Cell Tower Locater)

http://signallocbb.sourceforge.net/ota/signalloc.jad

One thing I like about BBMaps, is that once you have DL'ed the map for a given location, it is always available OFFLINE, from then on......

I lost BB Maps. BB Maps is installed, as Poynt is using it. But that's not the same as having BBMaps as a standalone app. I have Google Maps and they are good. The point here is the principle rather than the value of BBMaps.
You can wipe BB clean and start over, but service books are automatically updated by ATT, so it is not a permanent solution.

When you return back to ATT domain, you will lose it again.

I have also got Hydra theme, but no BBMaps. BBMap is used by Poynt but otherwise invisible as a standalone app.
If I go to Options > Maps, the description reads "Blackberry Maps NA".

Hi,

I have downloaded the desktop software 4.6.167 from blackberry.com,this is what it shows on the PTT EMR patch for bold,
Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9000 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.438 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.6.0.438
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.6.0.167
* Software Platform: 4.0.0.217
* File name: 9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel438_PL4.0.0.217_A4.6.0.167_AT_am p_T.exe
* File size: 93.32MB
I have downalded this one...
and now the Poynt and weather bug uses the Blackberry maps,But I don't see the standalone BB maps application on my Bold.
, IF i check it on options and maps--it says ---BLACKBERRY MAPS-NA

Please anyone let me know how to get the BB maps on my bold?

Thanks

I must be stupid or something - I have the latest beta, 4.6.0.266, and I cannot see themes. I used to be able to see themes, and I also used to be able to use/see BBMaps when in a non-AT&T theme.

Something happened. I can't even see the Hydra Labs theme, in the Theme picker. Even though the themes are all listed in the Desktop Manager, with a checkbox on each of them. Nothing in my Themes picker in Options but the two AT&T themes.

As such, I also cannot see the BBMaps, even though it is also installed. This blows! I must have messed something up.

Did you delete the LbsConfig service book? If not, you will, and you'll learn to do it often...

I deleted that book, and rebooted and still...nothing. Cannot see any themes but the two from AT&T, even though I installed a bunch of them, cool themes and the Hydra theme, and cannot see any of them. Dang it!

I know Google Maps is out there, and I have it, but I like the BBMaps too. I think it works better out in the country, where there is only EDGE coverage.

Ha ha, hmm. Uh, I wasn't doing the Desktop Manager right. I put check marks next to the themes, but then did not chose Next, and then Finish. You have to do that, or it won't make the changes. I forgot that. My bad.

Now I have themes, but I still don't have the BBMaps 'compass' icon. Hmm. I will keep trying.

I have 282 and BB Maps are there (used by Poynt, etc.) but can not be used as a standalone app as they are hidden/disabled.
Selecting an alternate profile works until service books are resent and then they are gone again.
This has nothing to do with Google Maps. It's an ATT bad practice.

Here is how to get BlackBerry Maps back on your beloved Bold:

1. Download the Bold Software from AT&T

2. Install it on your computer and use Desktop Manage to Add/Remove Applications

3. Select BlackBerry Maps to be installed by checking it

4. At this point Maps will be installed, however, it will still no show on your phone due to AT&T hiding it from view.

5. You can show it by using any other theme than AT&T's. I have built a basic theme that mimics the AT&T theme as close as possible that you can download if you don't want to build your own with the CDK.

6. Switch to your alternate theme and Maps will show up as a compass in the main ribbon.

EDIT: I attached some screenshots so you can see what the theme looks like as well as BlackBerry Maps being shown. (Note the background is one of the preloaded ones on the device)

Please let me know if you have any comments or trouble with this!

Cheers,

Jacob
Hi,

Thank for ur tip, but please help to let me know if and how can I get BB Map on my BOLD 9000 (my BB bold 9000 was from Singtel, I bought it in Singapore) now I am using OS v4.6(282), I am travelling in Asia,..,

I think my BOLD is global version (which no need to unlock by code or provider contract,..., I just walk in SingTel, buy, insert my SIM and work....)

Your feedback is highly appreciated.

Bold is quad band i.e. will work anywhere in the world but it is still locked to a network unless you bought an UNLOCKED one.
There is no "global" version.

Somebody told me that AT&T has figured out a way to completely disable BlackBerry Maps on the Bold, and that even these hacks won't work. I am running the latest version of the OS, (not AT&T's version, mind you), which is v4.6.0.282.

It really blows that I can't use this app, because it comes with the phone. I should be able to use this app. I'm thinking monopoly, AT&T.

Hey everyone... Does anyone know if darkhorse's BB Maps fix will work on v4.6.0.282? That's the version I currently have and have already tried his fix, but it's not working; I don't see the BB Maps icon at all even after selecting 'show all' icons.

I downloaded a beta 5.0 OS, but it wasn't working good enough for me. I wiped my phone and reloaded .266 and restored my backups. Well, THERE IT WAS! It worked fine. Seemed fully functional, unlike what Poynt would load for BB Maps which was nothing but "search". Well, my AOL email wasn't on my phone, so I knew it wouldn't last. I resent my service books and sure enough, BB Maps disabled again.

So, if you wipe your phone, reload and don't resend service books, BB Maps should work fine. :p
Would you be so kind as to post the working service book for the Blackberry Maps. Also, Blackberry maps can be use within Worldmate Live.

Hi I'm on the same version, and having the same problem. Have you solve yours?
