9700 - ATT - Unlocked - VoIP/talk over WiFi? (possible sell device)
Please Login to Remove!
I have two brand new 9700's from ATT, both unlocked by ATT, both new, still in plastic. I'm debating whether or not to sell them, keep them, etc.
Are there any apps or is there anyway to get the 9700 to use a VoIP solution to talk over WiFi either without a SIM card or with a pre-paid SIM? I'm trying to get a phone working with Google Voice only or something similar that's not on a monthly plan - I don't care if it only works when I'm around WiFi.
Also, if there aren't any solutions - what are these things worth? I don't have any of the packaging, cables or chargers - They are both brand new, unlocked by ATT (I have a T-Mobile pre-paid I can show the phone calling on both ATT & T-Mobile), both have new batteries in plastic (never been used). Are they worth selling or keeping? First choice is to get one working with a VoIP solution and keep them.
Thx.

I saw those - thx. From what I understand the ones that use 3G piggyback on your carrier's service/minutes/plan while the ones that go over WiFi are all subscription-based (like Vonage). I know there are VoIP apps for iPhones out there (I use my wife's old iPhone for this purpose now) but I'd like to find a solution that will work on the BB so I don't have to carry two phones or so at least if I have to carry two phones I can have a keyboard on them.
Pretty much looking to use Google Voice without it charging me minutes on my plan. (Have ATT).

Re: 9700 - ATT - Unlocked - VoIP/talk over WiFi? (possible sell device)
The VOIP clients all have serious issues right now. Buying any one of them today, is a huge waste of money...
To get VOIP on a BB that works seamlessly, you'd need a BlackBerry Communication Server with a unified client like the Cisco client that works with a VOIP system. Big $$ and for enterprise use - but for the average consumer - there's nothing that actually works. Most don't even offer a trial software, so that should tell you something. Others can't even get their software to work with more than one revision of a particular OS...and "working" for these guys, can mean 2-3 second delay on incoming voice - useless.

These guys don't have a trial version -- and it has a 1 star rating. As well, as out of 35 reviews, most say it doesn't work and there's no support...and they feel robbed. Sounds like a wonderful product indeed!! Glad it works for you though, most others say it doesn't work on the 9700.

I wouldn't use VoIPswitch. I signed up for information regarding their consumer product and they (marcel@voipswitch.com) basically spams my e-mail box with their corporate product. Even when I told him that I was not interested in his corporate product (costs over $26k to $65k), he continually spams me.
