Smile 8830 vs Treowx

Please Login to Remove!

I have been using the Treo wx and am considering switching to the 8830. My work uses Microsoft Exchange Server and I have heard different things on this and was wondering if anyone also switched with Exchange and what was their experience. I have heard there is a download for this but was just wondering how difficult this is because I know enough about computers and electronics to be dangerous. Thanks ahead of time for any help!

Make the switch to the Blackberry. I adminster Exchange Server using BES. In my experience the BBerry is more user friendly and with less user issues than the Treo wx. I have one user left using the Treo and if he weren't the owner of the company I'd be tempted to take the Treo out of service immediately. His Treo was always a source of problems. Good luck.

Even if you don't have BES, you can still use the BB with IMAP, POP3, or OWA. The only thing is, you'll have a 15 minute delay in receiving messages that way and only 1 way sync instead of 2 way.

The biggest advantage in using the Blackberry that you will notice is the better battery performance. Using the Active Sync on windows mobile, the device actually does all of the heavy lifting (checks in with the server every so often to see if there are any new messages - actually to see if the server has anything to push it, which is not really push, kinda fake push). With the Blackberry, the server does all of the heavy lifting, simply pushing the messages directly to the device whenever anything arrives. It is not a "sync" but rather a true push.

As FlashAM mentioned, if your company is not running a BES, there are other options that get you a less-than-realtime experience, but it still uses the push technology.

With blackberry, your email checks you. . .not the other way around.

My pop3 accounts are all instantaneous. It's the IMAP accounts that have a 15 minute delay on them.
