Default Meida Card format failed

Please Login to Remove!

I just bought a brand new 4GB microSD card for mine and my wife's BB. The problem is when I insert them into our phones and go to format I get a "Media Card Format Failed" message. The BB recognizes a media card being inserted and/or removed and I also followed the setup and instructions in the FAQ. Anyone got any insight on this?

Format it on your computer.

Really don't need to format them. As long as it is a reputable brand, it should work out of the box. I have never formatted any that I have used over the years, on a phone or PC.

That's what I thought too but, even though the BB recognized that a memory card was inserted, it still said it needed to be formatted. Anyway, in the end after doing a little more digging, I found a solution that worked. I can't remember if it was this site or a different one, but I found a post somewhere that suggested removing the battery with the memory card installed and, once reinstalling the battery, trying to format the card. It worked perfectly. Simple solution to a frustrating problem.

Thanks to the two of you for the input.

It sounds like a dumb question, but are you running at least OS 4.2.2? IIRC, that's the OS required to support a 4GB media card.

Odd. I've not heard of this happening with your model. Some of the early 8830's had a formatting problem with the media card that was tied to the OS. Similar problem, you could format that sucker all day and it would fail over and over.
