Any reason to upgrade my 7290 running 4.1.0.256 from CSL to the newer 4.1.0.292 on the CSL download site? Any advantages?

Not that you will have the same results as I did, but it was horribly slow - to the point where simply pressing the trackwheel it could take 3 or 4 minutes to bring up the menu. After dealing with that for a few days (having tried wiping the handheld in case of corrupt/bloated data) i gave up and went back to the 4.1.0.256 on my 7105T.

I must say, though, the new theme that came with the 4.1.0.292 was really nice looking.

Biggest bummer for me with the 292 release was that the assigning of the convenience key feature no longer had the phonebook as an option, not sure why.

That's my two cents.. i'm now back on 256 CSL release...

.292 takes a little longer to lad at first, but you should be able to do things like use the zen theme, because it supports enhanced themes. other than that i have noticed no differences.

I noticed the same thing on my 7100g. When I first loaded it I almost took it right off, but it seems that after you do something once, the next time is very fast. After a couple days, I think it's faster than the old 4.0 OS. It's the waiting the first time that seems like forever.

AS follow-up...I downgraded back to 4.1.9.256. Everything is as it should be. No real advantage to the 4.1.0.292 - actually had some call quality issues, as well as data issues - my 7290 on Cingular would often move to lower case gprs and even in GPRS PIN messages would remain pending. May have just been me, but didn't find the value to the upgrade. 256 is just fine, and the phone has never worked better on my 7290...if only my 7100g had sounded this good!
