cannot rcv UK phone calls when in UK, but calls from US are OK

I'm new...first post...desperate.
Travelling in UK. 7100G (cingular). When I first arrived, and for 5 days, I could rcv calls from work/customers around the word. Then one fine English day (sic rain and cold) unit decided to switch to Vodafone (from O2 when I first got here), and now in my phone app I see "Unknown Number" and I can't receive calls that originate in the UK. People can call me from the USA, Russia. But when they try from India, Germany, UK, they receive "This call can not be completed at this time". I've tried endless customer service calls, removed battery, wiped data, switched carriers, "write number in SIM". The number shows for 2 seconds, and the second I register with carrier - it all falls apart. I can make calls to anywhere, and can receive emails from anywhere.
