Default OS: 8130 4.5.0.281/4.5.0.169 (Multilanguage) (ESN devices)

Please Login to Remove!

Software For BlackBerry® Pearl (TM) 8130 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.281 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.281
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.169
* Software Platform: 3.4.0.51
* File name: 8130uAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel281_PL3.4.0.51_A4.5.0.169_Al ltel.exe
* File size: 88.02MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download: OS 4.5.0.169 for the Pearl 8130 from Alltel

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8130:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

How to determine if you have an ESN or MEID based device.
From the main menu, select Options, then select Status.
ESN devices - On the Status screen you will see ESN on the display
MEID devices xxx8211; On the Status screen you will see MEID on the display.
NOTE xxx8211; You cannot install ESN-based software on a MEID device, nor can you install MEID-based software on an ESN device. They are NOT interchangeable.

Previous OS

Downloading now...

So far the only thing I can find reported as different is "no Lag time from time out screen"

I'll post an update if I see anything else.

What exactly do you mean by "no lag from time out screen"?
You said you were just downloading (and thus haven't installed it yet), so are you talking about the difference in RIM's website or the BB OS? lol.

No I am talking about the OS.. I was trying to find out what has been said about it on other sites .. the only thing I found was the "no Lag time from time out screen" comment.

Sorry, I know it's not exactly useful, but it all I could find.. I've just finished the upgrade and so far everything seems good. I seem to have a bit more memory, but I can not yet tell if that is just because of the reboot, or if there is actually more memory...

I'll update more later after I've been running it for a bit..

Oh my bad, didn't see that you wrote "reported" and not from your own experience. I found that on the crackberry forum. I'm guessing that means the delay from pressing the trackball while the screen is off is no longer present! Woot!

Well if that was what the Lag was, it definitely appears to be fixed. screen lights up immediately for me.... Also noticed there seems to be better signal strength. I was having trouble with .160 in low signal areas... dropped or missed calls... time will tell, but so far I like it this build...

I've got it loaded too. Call me extremely skeptical after how bad .160 was, but we'll see. Call timer is there. I can press the trackball and yes, the screen does seem to light up immediately.

I like this too. Especially the immediate screen light-up from pressing the trackball :D

The battery life was greatly improved. However, I lost audio notification of messages and incoming calls last night and had to pull the battery. Going back to .89 as I type this.

I should have just stayed on .89 and probably will unless I hear of major features being added after .169.

Could I install this even if I have a Verizon 8130? I tried to install the one that Verizon titles as V4.5 from 8-11-09 but after I installed it, it was the same one I had from a while back Package Version: 4.5.0.138

Can someone tell me if I can install this alltel one, or will I lose functionality or something?

Just follow this:

'How to determine if you have an ESN or MEID based device.
From the main menu, select Options, then select Status.
ESN devices - On the Status screen you will see ESN on the display
MEID devices – On the Status screen you will see MEID on the display.
NOTE – You cannot install ESN-based software on a MEID device, nor can you install MEID-based software on an ESN device. They are NOT interchangeable.'

You should be fine I believe.

I have been following the instructions, but the new version isn't loading. I'm stuck with 4.5.0.77. Any thoughts?
