Question Cannot acess Blackberryforums.com?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello there!

For some reason I cannot access Blackberryforums.com anymore
from my home-pc. (not from my desktop or my laptop)
This is for a few days now.
Somehow I get a PAGE NOT FOUND error, both in IE and FF.

Anyone got any idea?

Thanks in advanced!

Have you checked your Internet connection?

Do other pages load normally?

Yes, that's the weird of it, internet works normaly, I can suft the internet
and visit every other site, only not blackberryforums.com. Not with my
desktop and not with my laptop trough my wireless network.
I checked my router settings but everything looks normal.

Only thing I can think of is that my provider is blocking the IP of Blackberryforums (Don't know why they should do that) or that blackberryforums is blocking my I.P. (don't think of that either).

Weird huh?

Edit: I have also tried setting my NOD and firewall off, did not work either.
Also their are no sites blocked in my Hosts file under windows.

try doing a ping to the site.

to do this, follow these steps:

1. click on the start logo thingy on the bottom left
2. if you have vista, click on the little text box in the start menu if you have xp, clock on run
3. type cmd and hit enter (do this on both xp and vista)
a black command prompt screen will come up
4. type in the following line without quotes "ping www.blackberryforums.com"

see if you get a bunch of numbers. if you do, there is something messed up with the browser. if it says "request timed out" or anything similar, than there is an issue with your internet connecting to that particular site (which is very weird)

Ok, did the ping and got the message 'Cannot find host, check the name and try again'.

I also pinged other sites like Google and they do give a
correct result. So it looks like blackberryforums is the only
one so far that I cannot reach.

I think it is weird, can it be some error with my provider?

Try pinging blackberryforums.com from a machine that browse ot it fine. Get the IP address from the result and add it into your HOSTS file on the machine that's not browsing, save that file and then try browsing and see what happens.

If it's a windows machine, you can also try opening a CMD window (Start/Run/CMD/[enter]) and typing:

ipconfig /flushdns [enter]
ipconfig /registerdns [enter]

This will sometimes clear up a caching error.

I have no machine here to try it right now, instead I looked up the IP adress
of blackberryforums online and got 74.86.254.234. So I added this to my
hosts file, rebooted and still I get a 'cannot find website' error.

I think it is verry strange and cannot think of a reason why.

Thanks for all the help so far!

Nope, I get the message Cannot find host, 'check the name and try again'
I can ping other sites, that's the weird of it.

My pardon - I meant can you ping 74.86.254.234 directly?

Yes I can, 4 packets send and received. But when I surf to 74.86.254.234 I get a Apache server page, not blackberryforums so I wonder if the IP is correct.

Very strange...

Shot in the dark here: in your hosts file, did you add blackberryforums.com or www.blackberryforums.com, and which are you putting in your browser? They both seem to point to the same IP address, and the site doesn't seem to care which you use, but links direct to "www...".

Just so we have a solid baseline for speculation, can you:

1) power cycle all of your router/firewall/hubs/switches/etc equipment

2) clear the BBF from your HOSTS file, reboot, and ping both URLs. (a) Do either resolve to the proper ip address, and if so (b) do you get replies? Also, try to load both into (c) FF and (d) IE and see what happens in each.

3) put both BBF entries in the HOSTS file, reboot, and ping both URLs. Repeat the steps in (2)

Well, no luck so far. Gonna try the last option suggested by jmwking and will call my provider tomorrow. Lets see if they can work things out.

Thanks for the help so far, I will let you know if I find a solution (or not).

Ok, I give up...

I tried all suggestions given here, also a traceroute command does not give a result to blackberryforums. Complete reboot of my router also did not help.

Yesterday I tried surfing to blackberryforums from a linux-pc (booted one of my pc's in linux from a fresh bootable cd) and I can browse the Internet without any problems on it, except.................. this one.

My idea out of all this is that the problem lies not with one of my computers here, so I called my provider and got someone on the phone who was going to search every question I asked up in his computer. Basically all he did was looking up if this was a known problem, It wasn't, and he tried surfing to Blackberryforums from his computer and he could. So he was not able to help me with this, he was going to make some kind of report about it.

Well, thanks for all the help and the thinking with me!
Somehow there is something blocking me through to blackberryforums and I think I give up trying, hoping that the problem will resolve itself somehow over time.
I will be able to visit blackberryforums through my BB and through webbased proxy's, so I will be able to live with it for now...

Edit: (If anyone should have any suggestions, surely I would be glad to hear them. It is not that I wanna give up, just getting a little bit tired from the hours I am trying and puzzling here...)
