Wirelessly posted (Breaking Ball)

OTA firmware updates are not possible yet.

BlackBerry Domain > Users Tab > Right-click on a User and you'll see the option, however there's no means of using it at this point.

For real? With BES 4.1.5 and device OSes of 4.5, there's still no way to do OTASL?

This function would sure be nice for remote device management.

OS 4.5 is not out yet, of course. When it becomes available, the carriers should greenlight RIM to enable the feature.

...with that said, they better give us the ability to host these on our own rather than simply pulling the 'available' updates from RIM. I don't want a company or carrier dictating which OS's I can install on our devices because they can't work fast enough to certify OS's with vital bug fixes.

In 4.5 os go to Options>Advanced options>Wireless Upgrade...I guess you would need to setup software configuration first .
Haven't tried it yet though.

The device connects to RIM's network not your BES to check for the update. Therefore, if they aren't publishing any updates (as OS 4.5 is not out yet), then it won't work.

jibi, any source on this?

1) Does the provider need to make the software update available?
2) Does RIM need to make the software update available?

Case 1 would really suck because most providers don't make updates available.

There is an IT Policy though:
Quote:
Allow Non Enterprise Upgrade IT policy rule

This rule specifies whether to permit Research In Motion® or the wireless service provider to request that the BlackBerry®
device download wireless software upgrades.
Default setting
The default setting is False.
Minimum requirements
• Java® based BlackBerry device
• BlackBerry® Device Software Version 4.5
• BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Version 4.1 SP4
It doesnt say anything about Enterprise Upgrade, it only speaks about Non Enterprise Upgrade.

This feature is not active yet. RIM has not flipped the switch to "ON" for OTA Software Updates yet.

Don't worry about it.
