Forwarding loop error

Hi,
I am in the process of migrating users from a BES 4.1 for Lotus Domino to BES 5.x on Exchange 2010 using the Quest Notes Migrator for Exchange to migrate the mailboxes. I am using a coexistence scenario where both mail servers share the same e-mail address domain. Mail flow is managed by forwarders and send connectors.
Before I started migrating users, everything works fine. When I started moving users to the new Exchange server, I noticed BES 4.1 users could not send messages to the Exchange users when using their BB devices. Sending e-mails from their Lotus Notes client to Exchange users is no problem just as sending e-mails from their BB device to Lotus Domino users.
The error a user receives when sending a message from their BB device to an Exchange user is:
Delivery Failure Report
Your document: Test
was not delivered to: "User Name" <U.Name@company.nl@company.nl>
because: Maximum forwarding loop count exceeded. Message probably in a forwarding loop. Examine Forwarding Address of intended recipient in Domino Directory.
The strange thing of course is the double domain name.
My gut says me the issue is with the way the BES 4.1 servers delivers the messages to the Lotus Domino server as when a user sends an e-mail using the Lotus Notes client everything is well.
My questions are:
1) Have you seen the @company.nl@company.nl error and if so, know how to resolve it?
2) Is it possible to configure the BES 4.1 server to use an alternative SMTP server to send/relay messages?
Any help and/or suggestions are most welcome!
Regards,
Ashley.
