Default Newbie anxiously awaiting my phone

Hi everyone,

New here. I just ordered a new 8830 from Sprint yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive. I bought it primarily because I travel for work a lot and love the fact that I can insert a different SIM card when overseas. Hope to get it up and running before I leave for Honduras next Saturday.

I've never had a BB or SmartPhone before, so I'm eager to see what all I can do with it. Maybe I'll be able to travel without my laptop - wouldn't that be cool? Love the idea of being able to run powerpoint, keep track of my schedule, etc. I have loved using my "regular" phone for email.

Welcome to the forums.

It is a very nice device. I used the 8830 for nearly 2 years and loved it. Check out BlackBerry FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ for tons of more tips and info.

Wendy - you mentioned putting in a different SIM card when you travel. Just note that the in-country SIM card will not have a BlackBerry Data Plan on it, so you won't get your e-mail or many of the other BlackBerry data functions.

With a "plain old" SIM card, you will have voice and SMS text capability.

Thanks for the info! I wont' need the data stuff, just want to be able to hear my hubby's voice, even if briefly.
