I like a lot of my friends decided not to bother with the hybrids and to wait for Verizon's official release. Now we have all upgraded from .75 to .148. But what is the big difference? My radio works the same. The OS if faster is not noticeable. Memory leaks continue. Our long discussions of how to use the mute button to toggle between profiles is no longer a feature here. So my question is, what was this .148 hype all about?

J, never experienced not even ONE of those symptoms. Not to say they don't exist, but then again it was making reference to upgrade from .141. A lot of "may"s...thanks

Other 9530 carriers will soon be updating their device OS to releases more advanced than .148, and once again Verizon's users will be demanding and clamoring for a new OS.

Has anyone else experienced random phone reboots? I've had my Storm for about five months, with both .75 and .113, I never really had any glitches. I downloaded .148 last night from Blackberry, installed fine, seemed last night to be faster. Today, my phone rebooted itself three times in an about an hour and it seems to be alot slower than when I ran .75. What the hell?

Can't say I do Josh...ever since my upgrade last night I have been stable..but then again I never really had an instability problem. I have kept EDGE all day...just like .75...maybe its just your time...

You should notice a huge change in STABILITY going from .75 to .148.

I went from: .65 > .75 > .99 > .103 > .132 > .148

If you are somewhat familiar with computers this may help. The only thing that is going to SPEED UP your Storm, like a computer, is more onboard RAM. Updating the OS only adds stability and more features. Usually, a new OS for a computer demands more RAM to operate efficiently.

If you are running .148 after living through the hell of .75 and not dabbling in the betas - you notice a huge difference in stability. You must. When I went from .75 to .99 it was like getting a new phone.

I must concede, I am biased. I love Blackberry capabilities and I love my Storm. If you crossed over from another Blackberry model, I see your point in some aspects. We all deserved better out of the Storm. But it HAS come a LONG way.

Like you, I am hoping for a new generation model with tweaks and substantially more onboard RAM.

Good post brother because I do feel your frustration. But you did miss out by not dabbling with the betas.

I think I missed out somewhat from not "dabbling with the betas", but I was never impelled. My .75 was working just fine...but then again since I never dabbled I had nothing to compare it with. Now that I have the .148 I am impressed but not overly. I read a lot of threads talking about speed of the OS and as you rightly pointed out how could this be without a RAM upgrade. But then again rewriting ones algorithm can ascertain a certain level of efficiencieny which amounts to speed (yes I'm a programmer).

Like you I LOVE MY STORM. I've started with the 7250-7100t-8700G-Curve-Bold now here I am. I also had some cool stuff to say in another post...

I agree on stability. On .148 my sound profile does not randomly change. Portrait to landscape is much faster. My phone keypad is also more stable in speed dialing and number selection. In the past pressing a number would randomly show up as # or * In general the operation of the phone seems more crisp.

While I was happy with .75, .148 is noticeably better.

Naturally .148 is more stable but the instability you are making reference to in .75 I have never experienced.

there is no one major difference in the new OS but over all the storm with the .148 upgrades does feel better performance wise. i have 3 email accounts on mine and i have beejive running the whole time. in beejive i am running aim , facebook,myspace,and msn. the radio is def holding the EDGE once in a while it will go to edge and a min later go right back up. the phone does act faster when flipping the screen and opening apps. also the keyboard is keeping up with my typing with no lag. the .75 was nice no issues other then the lag which was a major issue with me because i did so much. i feel if you are not a heavy user of your blackberry then i don't see a reason to upgrade, but if your on it as much as a computer then def upgrade .

This is somewhat misleading. Let me start out by asking a question:

Every time your computer starts to run slow do you go out and buy more RAM?

No, you don't. First thnig you (should) do is check what applications can be closed or find alternative programs that do the same thing as another just more efficiently (aka - using les RAM).

Yes, physically increasing you RAM is one of the best and fastest ways at making your computer faster. However, it is also possible to significantly increase the speed of your device by fixing bugs in the code that cause memory leaks (which take up more RAM then needed), using less code to do the same work and finding any other way to do the same thing more efficiently.

When adding additional hardware to a device is not an option (as is the situation with the Storm), optimizing the software running on the device is a very common and practical solution. Thus, an updated OS can (and does) make the Storm run faster.

I gave up on my Storm after several months with the .75 version, and went back to it when .148 came out.

Some of the improvements that I have noticed include:

1. When I get a call and I'm already on Bluetooth, the call actually comes to my headset. On .75, half the time I had to click the "Sent to Handpiece" then "Send to Headset" on the phone.

2. The phone flips from portrait to landscape about 10 times faster.

3. In a week, it hasn't restarted once.

4. Battery life was and is still good.

5. It's been powered on for at least 5 days and I have plenty of memory available.

Could it be better? Of course, but I find that it is usable now, where under .75 it wasn't.
