Are there compatibility issues with the Pearl and/or BlackBerry Desktop Manager v4.2 on older versions of BES for Domino (v2.2.3.11)?

We don't buy Pearl's for our US users, but one of my international users bought one and he cannot get it to reconcile read/unread marks in Lotus Notes correctly when syncing the device with BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Users with 7130's or 8700's do not have this issue.

I had this issue when we got our first Pearl for the MD, just install the supplied CD or d/l 4.2 desktop software, and install it on the BES server, this will 'issue' the BES server with the right drivers to see and install the Pearl to the right mailbox.

I am guessing this is due to RIM delaying the release of BES 4.5 / 5.0 server, which should cater for all the new handsets.
