Question Another Caller ID problem (for 7290 this time)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I have a 7290 on T-Mobile and I do not receive any caller information on it unless it's another T-Mobile handset calling me.

All calls from non T-Mobile phones show as 'Unknown'.

I read on another thread that someone was having problems with their 7250 and there was suggestions that number/name reconciliation with the address book would occur if the +1 was removed.

However, my problem is that no numbers appear at all.

T-Mobile support staff severely lacking in this area - say it must be a limitation of the calling phone. However, the calling phone's number appears on other T-Mobile handsets.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Do this experiment to prove TMO wrong:
Call from a land line to your Cell #, but proceed the # with *82 which will guarantee that the Caller ID ("CID") is sent. See what happens on your phone.

Then try it again, but this time proceed your call with *67 which will block your CID. Is it any different?

If you still can't see your CID with the *82 then there is some TMO problem, but it could be also dependent on where your local dial tone comes from. If it comes from an RBOC like SBC or Verizon, the you can ask TMO to escalte it or try the same experiment from their land lines to their own phones or to yours.
If your Local Service Provider is a CLEC or Independent company- they might not be transmitting it. In that case, try the experiement from an RBOC land line to make sure.

This is weird - I got a call from a business landline and their name and ID showed up!
I said they were dropping out and could they ring back (I lied so I could see their number appear again to make sure). They rang back and sure enough - "Unknown Number" appeared.

Now, I've tested calling my BB from work and I know my caller ID info does not appear. So, I sat down and called my BB 25 times - just let it ring so I could see info. Results: 23 times I got "Unknown Number" and 2 times I got caller ID info.

I wonder if it's a BB thing now - but I suspect it's a TMO issue as all cell phones calling my BB have their info appear.

Thoughts?

Weird- we are you located and when you are making these test calls, who is the local service provider- who's providing the dial tone?

I'm not a big TMO fan, but always has consisten CID delivery when I had their service here in LA- but it was on a Moto A630

I'm in NYC calling from my office (large investment bank).
No idea who their carrier is.
Will try the test you suggested this evening from home (I use Vonage and I know info doesn't appear on the BB when calling from home). Interestingly, on my old Ericsson handset calling from home showed CID info so I know it's not my landline/VOIP provider.
