Default BES 5 Questions

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

The organisation I am contracting for has a BES 5 SP3 MR2 server connected to Exchange 2003. I am a bit new to BES, but I have had to step into the breach due to no-one else knowing what to do!

I understand that the BES server connects to the Blackberry network via srp.eu,blackberry.net on port 3100. Presumably then in order for users to send messages the BB network has to talk back to the BES server. How is that part configured? Will my mobile/cell network provider have a setting in their system that tells it the address of the BES server?

We have recently switched IP-network providers and I am battling some issues at the moment. I suspect that ports are being blocked on the service we are using.

Thanks,

Seth

Sorry I see my mistake that - SRP is port 3101.

If you have a firewall which monitors/block outgoing connections you have to allow the Machine running the BES server to connect to port 3101 to the RIM servers.
If you need to restrict this not only to a port but to a range of IP Adresses, read this KB article:
KB03735-Firewall and connection requirements for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, BlackBerry Device Service, and Universal Device Service
and configure your Firewall appropriate.

There is no extra firewall rule needed or an open port to your blackberry server or DMZ. Normally your firewall should automatically allow related traffic to the outgoing traffic to port 3101.

BES uses the SRP to contact RIM NOC and RIM NOC uses device PIN to send the messages
