I think it's intentional. Rolling out an upgrade is expensive. They have to send out notices to everyone and then deal with another batch of tech support calls. I imagine it takes a lot of time to field calls from people installing a new OS.

Since the one posted on T-Mo works for what the Pearl is supposed to do, there's no need to post the latest OS.

I suspect that T-Mo knows that those whom are aware of the latest operating systems are the type who go out and get it from places like BBF. So there is no need to post it for the 90% of T-Mo customers whom are satisfied with their Pearls in their current configuration.

No, doesn't mess with warranty. It will hurt in the support area but the support is better here than anywhere else. If I was to send my BB in under warranty I would load the latest 'approved' OS on it first. I've been using other carrier's OS's on my BB's ever since I found this forum.

Default Works

I also can say it works.
I am from Mexico and I have a Blackberry Pearl 8100 with Telcel and I bought a 4GB in Office Depot down here and I installed the 4.2.1.101 and it works great the 4GB MicroSD. Works like a charm. I got 3.73GB Free. Try that out. Also the 4.2.1.101 is a hell of a lot faster.

Smile 4GB Card working on TMO Pearl

I just upgraded to 4.2.1.101 (Platform 2.3.0.80) and after upgrading it does in fact read my data card as 3.7GB. I have a Pearl that's at least 6 months old from T-Mobile, and it's up and running successfully. I used the download link and instructions from this Post:

mikef1469,

Did you try the 4GB card prior to upgrading? Thanx.

Thumbs up

In case anyone else is interested, here's a 4GB Micro SD card that is available on Amazon for ~$75 now:

Amazon.com

Now I just need to figure out what else to load onto it. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

this is awesome news.

i was originally disappointed shortly after buying my pearl to find it was ultimately limited to 2GB of space. one advantage this has over the iPhone now is that you can have, say 3x 4GB chips, that's 12GB of memory. the iPhone does not have a memory card slot!

Well, I have 1GB of music on mine. And below is a snapshot of my Pearl's video folder.

That's an excellent point. One can take three 4GB chips on a trip [put em in the wallet] and have enough space for 30 movies and 200 tunes. Can't beat that.

E.g., look at my video selection below and that only takes up 2.2GB of space.

When the price goes down on the 4GB chips [in six months maybe about $30 or less?] I can see loading up on them.

This is not a Micro SD card. It's a Sony Memory Stick. It will not work in any Blackberry devices. Do not buy one of these if you want to use it in your Pearl.

You need to edit your post to remove the link. Someone is going to buy this chip based on your representation and they are gonna get burned.

Default 4GB Micro SD (SDHC)

I'm using a SanDisk 4GM MicroSDHC chip purchased thru Amazon.com. Seems th SDHC compliant reader is activated thru software; I'm using the .101 OS. My MicroSD was $65, price going up according to market.

Amazon.com: SanDisk 4GB MicroSD / Transflash with SD & Mini Adapter BULK Packaging: Electronics

Did you get it from EMartBuy? If so, that's a good vendor. We all bought 1GB chips from him last year, I think it was last year. Big question was how reliable a seller he was.

I got three different chips from him, all in timely fashion, well packed, etc.

In fact, I just bought one of those 4GB MicroSD from him. He says on his page "Only three left." Guess now there is only two left.

I suspect that we here on BBF put demand on those chips, now that it has come out that they work with the Pearl. Demand = temp price increases.

Sounds silly, but I don't really need the 4Gb chip so I canceled the order so to give others the chance to get one at that low price. So "my chip," so to speak, is available from that vendor on Amazon, eMartBuy.

$70 including shipping from emart. Still seems a little overpriced, but thats the price of new technology. From what I've seen, this is the best deal going. And since I really could use the extra space, and based on the positive feedback from SanFran, decided to go ahead and take the plunge.
