Default ATT - Service Books

Please Login to Remove!

I searched and tried to fit this into another thread but couldn't find an appropriate one.

I had a 9700 BOLD and no matter how many times I deleted the service books ATT would just resend them and they would re-appear. I'm talking about the web/http links (like for ATT maps, LinkedIn, Bloomberg, etc.).

I just got a 9800 TORCH - is there any way to configure it so that those foolish service books don't keep popping up? Yes - i know i can just "hide" them - but they are still there... I want them GONE for good... Is there a way to do that?

Thx.

Nope, that's why everything says to just hide them.

Ditto. Just hide and forget. It seems every new BlackBerry has more junk than the last one. It stinks. But nothing else you can do.

Is there a list of things I can exclude when using something like BB Boss OS Shrinker?

Its kinda a pain to go through over & over using trial & error to see what works and what doesn't... Is there a list of "here's what you can junk on ATT" somewhere?

Thx.

Even with the OS Shrinker, the icons will come back if service books are ever resent and sometimes just on a battery pull reboot.

So, just hide them as mentioned. I create a folder on my screen named "Junk" and move the icons there, then I hide the entire folder. Out of sight, out of mind.

To expand on JSanders' response, there is nothing the OS to remove. Those service book icons come straight from AT&T when your phone logs onto the network during a boot up.

Part of the cellular network tie-in includes the network checking your phone for all the service books that make certain functions of your phone work - including making calls and accessing the internet through AT&Ts cell and data lines. If your phone is properly registered to use that network, then it checks for additional "carrier specific service books" for those "value added features". That's when all the crapware gets loaded. If they are not there, then it gets reloaded.

Fortunately, as mentioned, they are usually just browser links that take you to a site where you can then download the actual application in question. So they take up very little space. Hiding them is the only way to keep them out of the way. It doesn't delete them, and the service books for them stay, so there is nothing to get reloaded.
