For the record BES and Exchange are on different servers. I am upgrading from SBS2000 to SBS2003. I was thinking of doing the following.

1) Apply latest BES service pack (if not already there)
2) stop all blackberry services
3) Upgrade SBS2000 to 2003
4) Apply lots of critical updates and service packs
4) load the system manager on the BES server and apply sp1
5) restart BES services

Should/will this work? I am sorry if I am retreading an old topic, but I cannot find any articles on the ramifications of an exchange upgrade with respects to either BES 3.6 or 4.0.

One of my clients wanted to upgrade from 2000 to 2003 SBS, and we tried it with BES in place. BES did not survive the upgrade. We had to rip it out, delete every last registry entry related to BES, and reinstall.

Was BES on the same server as SBS?

I've have done this same scenerio in the past and it worked fine.

We did an upgrade on one box from sbs2000 to sbs2003 and we had bes 3.6 on the other. We shut down the bes box during the upgrade and when it was done everything worked fine.

The only thing you might want to stay away from is exchange sp1, We didn't apply that service pack because it was to new at the time and other clients were reporting problems with it.
