Hello All,
I have a blackberry which i gained off a friend and i am trying to get it do something. I may have got slightly confused about this whole thing. I have a sim card with gprs (standard not a blackberry tariff) which i believe not to be port limited. It has the os 4.0 software and i have filled in all the relivant APN information. Should i not be able to use applications like verichat/webmessenger ? Every-time i try and use any of these pieces of software i get a timeout error is what i am trying possible ?

Also to note... when my blackberry is on it connects to the network and says gprs in small letters and also says 'data connection refused' !!?!

You need to contact your carrier and have the BlackBerry Data Plan added. If your BB reads Data Connection Refused you will not have any sort of data connectivity - just voice and SMS.

Can non blackberry applications not function just over normal gprs... like they would on a non-blackberry phone. Do networks just block handsets that appear as blackberrys ?
I have just filled in all my details for an email address with my service provider (www.o2email.co.uk) on my blackberry and it asked for my pin etc does anyone know what this does ? Thanks Alex

I just been browsing around the email site and it gives me the option of sendingmyelf a new service book which i dont have. But i cant get it ... could that be because the gprs letters are small?
On the good side the Data Connection Refused bit has disappeared! Thanks Alex

GPRS means Blackberry Service
gprs means no Blackberry Service

A Nextel blackberry with a BOOST sim can be made to work with third party browsers and mail clients I think but not anyone else because the nextel network has native IP support and other networks require the APN stuff.
