BB e-mails not delivered to recipients on same Exchange server

I have a group of (Sprint/Nextel) BB users. E-mail is on our in-house Exchange 2003 server. We are not using a BES, however, but the online per-device (POP3) e-mail setup.
The users synch addresses, etc. using the Desktop Manager. When they send an e-mail to external contacts, the e-mail goes through fine. However, when they send to an internal e-mail address (i.e. another address on their own domain & hosted on their Exchange server), it fails. I called BB support, and they just told me it was an Exchange issue. That may be, but there must be other BB/Exchange users who have seen this behavior.
Is this a mail flow issue or an addressing issue? Is it possible that the BB is attempting to send using the regular X.400 address used internally (on Outlook) for in-house communications? Other ideas?
