Hi,

Not sure where to post this,
I recently bought a laptop and have set up three email accounts on it using the IMAP connection which - as I understand it should mean that when I read an email on the blackberry it becomes marked as read online too but this is not the case.

So when I am at work and read my emails on the computer, the blackberry then downloads them again and i have to go through and mark them all as read! Likewise if I am away and read emails on the blackberry, when i get back i have to mark them all as read on the computer!

Please help!!

Thanks,

You've also got to set your email reconciliation options for this to work.

Email>options>email reconciliation>delete on (handheld, mailbox & handheld, or prompt.)

This must be done for each email account.

As far as I know you need to set this option though. I use prompt, which prompts me each time I wish to delete as to where I wish to delete from. Also be sure that wireless reconcile is "on."

Someone help me out here if I'm missing something.

Understood, so just select "handheld" when you delete. Again, I may be missing something, and someone else will likely chime in. So check this thread again.

I'm going to assume that your using BIS (not BES). You're very clear about having setup your LAPTOP to use IMAP, but make no mention of how your BIS connection is setup. Is it also using IMAP? If not, then that's the source of your problem. BIS must be setup to use IMAP if you want "read status" to "synchronize".

BIS does not support real time read/unread/delete status from the mail inbox to the BB. I have noticed that the status will eventually update on the BB - on gmail it can take up to 6 hours.

Additionally, the IMAP server must support Enhanced-IDLE which provides read/unread/delete status via IDLE connection. This will allow mail clients (like Outlook) to see real time updates.

Thank you for your response,
How else can I set the email up other than BIS?
At work Outlook is connected to the account via exchange server and at home I have used IMAP to receive email and the read/unread/delete status does synchronise in real time however on my blackberry it does not at all – please advice...

You can use BES Blackberry Enterprise Service.

BES is what the blackberry was built for. Do a search here or google for Blackberry BES and you'll get all the info you need.

You will more than likely have to pay an extra fee from your service provider just so your phone has BES capabilities. On top of that, you will need an email service provider that offers a microsoft exchange email box w/ BES attached to it. That will cost money per month as well.

I believe BES is intended for people who get their company email on it and the device w/ service is paid by their employer. I feel it's too much money to spend monthly for the average consumer to spend just to have folder management and proper reconciliation.
