Suretype Opinions
Please Login to Remove!
I was just wondering what your opinions are of Suretype? I don't do alot of typing & I liked the "form factor" of the 7100 series. I picked up a 7130e from vzw last week. At the same time, I find that ST does take a little bit of getting used to but that's just my ADD I guess! Anyway, I would very much appreciate your thoughts on this rather unique style of typing. Thanks to all on this forum.

I had the 7510 and the 7520, and then switched to the 7100i last November. I absolutely LOVE the SureType. I've even reached the point that I can type while I'm not even looking at the device. I now have a harder time typing on the full keyboard than I do this smaller keyboard.
I'll never go back to the full keyboard.....unless it's to an 8700.

I had the 7290 for over a year and have just switched to the 7130e. Both were company bb's. I hope I never have to go back to the full size keyboard again. SureType for me is the way to go.

Actually, I just picked up my 7130e two days ago, and already I can type without even looking at the screen. From what I can gather, it will only get better with time. I must admit that at first, I found it difficult, but it has the ability to learn quickly.
I certainly wouldn't hesitate purchasing a 7130e based solely on ST.

Same here. I changed from a 7730 to the 7100 series last June (nearly a year now) and have been LOVING the freedom of one handed typing. Took me an hour to learn SureType. When I got the 7105t 2 months ago, it got even easier thanks to the contoured keys. I want the 8700g but I don't think I can go back to a full qwerty keyboard. Case in point, I had another full qwerty keyboard device (Sidekick) and my wrists thank me daily for changing back to the SureType LOL

The advice that I have been giving to those that are switching from the full keyboards to the the 71xx's is this. Be patient. For the first week or so you will hate SureType and be ready to throw the BB against the wall and go back to the full keyboard. After about a week the BB will have had a chance to do some 'learning' and add custom words you will get more used to the SureType. After two weeks you will never want to go back to the full keyboard. You just have to get through it which can take some time.

Aside from some words appearing instead of others, you will like it.
Are, See use the same keys. Just have to get used to moving the cursor around to change these type of word exchanges.

Thanks to all for your input on Suretype. I pretty much figured that one either likes the technology or hates it. Will stick with it & hope that the process ultimatly jumps out at me! That will be the day. Again, thanks to all who responded.

Don't forget that if you find SureType coming up with strange words (like ygr for 'the') you can go into the Custom Wordlist and delete them. I type pretty fast now, but since I'm not at 100% accuracy, I get some pretty far out words in my wordlist

For the most part I like Suretype. Sometimes it makes me mad though. It is supposed to have the ability to "learn" but it does not seem to all the time. Case in point, I have a friend name Ron. I type his name in e-mails quite often. I do not have a freind named rob. I never use the name, but the rob name is the first choice that always comes up when I type those 3 keys. I don't want to use rob, I want to use Ron, but it will not learn that fact.

i absolutely love the SureType. It gets easier and easier to learn. My BB also knows the names of my contacts, so when i am inputting a name into a message, i dont have to use the wheel. The ST takes time thou. It messes up on me on words such as "are" and "see" also on "try" and "yet," all which are words I use often. ST is definitely better then a regular cellphone T9.

Its awesome. I like the fact that when you receive mail it will add custom words to the dictionary!

Scroll through the options it presents you with as you type each letter or type the full word and scroll though the options. Either way, it will eventually learn "Ron." Or create an AutoText shortcut with the name.

That's the only thing I don't like because I don't need all those words and names.

SureType and I did not get along. I tried a 7100g for two weeks and decided to go back to my old 7780 while I await the 8700c I requested. I just got tired of fighting with it. If it wasn't picking the wrong letters then it was complicating matters when I did a typo and tried to go back and correct it.

The trick is to not look at the screen until you are done hitting they keys you need to type a word. For exmaple, if I'm going to type the word 'SureType', I just hit the keys I need for the word. If I'm looking at the screen, the word will look like 'siretyp' before I type the 'e' at the end. As soon as I hit that 'e', then it changes to 'Suretype'
