I did not get a link as an 8830.
I became an 8330 and did get the link but the download failed. I pasted to browser and did not click e-mail and received download failed.

Now I got the 8830 link. Still download failed. Went to unsigned version and its an expired URL

Okay
If you get download fail. Apply for another download and go straight to unsigned version

I do not like the split screen. My trackball is not as responsive as it should be

Hopefully your curve will respond better. The keys are similiar to Opera but not exact.

Doesn't seem so, I like seeing the full web page and the load time is good for a mobile device, the mouse pointer doesn't flow that smoothly but I can live with it.

The video on the CrackBerry.com looked a lot more smoother, it must that new processor the Bold has.. (Only double the speed of the 83xx ,81xx, 88xx devices)

just downloaded mine. I have a Nextel Blackberry 8350i and works great. I use Opera Mini too, the Bolt browser is faster. The Bolt browser has a lot of options too. The only problem I have is my "back" button does not work. I have to open the menu and choose "back". A pain in the @$$. Is anyone else having this problem?

It has an error that says that "the internet is not available, please check your network settings". this is odd because i have the unlimited plan and my internet works fine with OM and BBB. But I cant get this to work. I have a pearl 8100 and all of my app options are set to "allow"..Please help me get this to work

Alright - I finally got a hold of the Bolt Browser and got it installed.

Unfortunately after getting it loaded and doing a little research it seems that it has to have the Access Point configured and being on Centennial Wireless this is an exercise in futility.

For those of you who do get an invite...read the e-mail carefully.

Do not click on the link in the e-mail. Copy and paste the UNSIGNED link version into you BB browser.

Immediate observation is the font settings on the browser are tiny and almost unreadable. I am sure you can adjust this but I was unable to.

Additionally my cursor was very erratic moving around the page.

Unfortunately until Centennial lets us use the APN setting to access applications such as this...that is the extent of the review I will be able to provide until ATT takes over!

For those of you who need their TCP and APN settings when you get your BOLT loaded they have a list in the FAQ compiled by Mark Rejho:

What are the TCP and APN settings? - BlackBerryFAQ

For those of you who can use the TCP-APN settings this is from the BOLT FAQ site:

How can I connect to the Internet?

Generally, you will be connected directly to the Internet by simply launching BOLT.

However, in a limited number of cases, you may have to set up a new IAP (Internet access point) the first time you connect to the Internet through BOLT. An Internet Access Point (IAP) is a GPRS or high-speed connection provided by your telecom provider.

How can I add an access point?
Most mobile operators have a service that enables you to automatically setup an IAP via SMS. Please check your phone’s documentation for directions on how to do this.

For example, to set up an IAP mnually on a Nokia Symbian-based phone:
a. Go to Tools > Settings.
b. Select Connection>Access points
c. Press Options left softkey (LSK) and select "New access point > Use default settings"
d. Move to "Connection name", press "Options > Change" and specify a name for the connection.
e. "Data bearer" should be "GPRS" as it is by default
f. Scroll down to "Access point name", press "Options > Change" and specify your access point name.
g. Leave the other fields as it is and press the "Back" button, when finished.
Now open a Web page in BOLT and select the IAP (Internet access point) you wish to connect through. Your phone will now automatically establish a connection with the Internet.

Note: You cannot use a WAP gateway as your Internet access point. Consult your phone's help documentation to learn about adding an access point.

I have set the IAP, but BOLT does not connect to the Internet.

BOLT uses a secure connection to communicate with Web sites. Some firewalls may not allow communication between the BOLT client and server, which may cause BOLT to produce errors. Enable HTTPS using Settings>HTTPS to see if this resolves your connection problem. If not, disable this option and refer to your device’s user manual.

What kind of data network is required to connect BOLT to Internet?
BOLT runs independent of the network layer. You can connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi, GPRS, ActiveSync, or EDGE on enabled devices.

BOLT Shortcuts:

BOLT’s shortcuts are:
0 - Favorites
1 - Home
2 - Scroll Up
3 - Enter URL
4 - Scroll Left
5 - Toggle between fill-screen and split-screen view
6 - Scroll Right
7 – Find in page
8 - Scroll Down
9 - Forward
* - History.
# - Show Feeds
back button (held for 2 seconds) Show recent history

Hope this helps some of you
David

I tried holding the back button for 2 seconds, this does not work for me. I've tried just about everything. Pulling up the menu to select the "back" function is a deal breaker for me. In addition to having to pull up the menu to go back one page, the page does a full reload. Opera Mini and BB Browser do not do this.

I don't understand why they would creat a shortcut to go forward(#9)?!?!?! I barely use the forward button on any browser. I hope the Bolt creators have a fix in store. Is anyone else having this issue?

I downloaded it today and had the chance to play with it for about an hour. However, other than the speed ( it really is fast) I am not impressed with anything else.

1. The trackball seems very sensitive and tends to skip a lot. I couldn't find a place where i can customize this.
2. Unlike opera mini and the BB browser, the BOLD does not detect whether the page has a mobile version available. If, in the settings you go to mobile mode, it reduces the size of the page but not to full mobile.
3. When accessing m.facebook.com the security prompts to allow access pops up and the device freezes. Battery pull is required.
4. I noticed that while having the BOLT installed and was using my BB browser, the device would lag and give error 200. ( Restart the device, error 200).

And finally, I did use two e-mail accounts to request the beta version of the bold, so I do have one download link available. If anyone is interested please PM and I will give you the links.

Is there a way to get rid of the Bolt pop-up screen when you launch a website for the first time.

*The application Bolt has attempted to access us2.mysmallplanet.com. Would you like to allow this?

I checked the permissions in my BlackBerry under Bolt and everything is set to allow, I just find it a little annoying to say yes everytime you launch the brower.

Enable the firewall. (It works with Opera Mini should work with BOLT)

The next time you launch it, that will be the last time you see it. (Same with Opera Mini), just beware enabling the Firewall may interfere with other applications.

Let us know if it works.

I uninstalled it...I know this is beta but i don't see anything of an advantage over mini O...I am so used to mini that the experience with Bolt was a bit underwhelming.

I think Bolt renders pages better and then OM and quicker to. I am use to the Speed Dial in OM since I haven't setup my favorites in BOLT yet.

It will be nice for OM to have competition should up the game a bit. (Like IM+ vs. JiveTalk)
