Many have tried, without success. Data plans specific to device manufacturers are designed to be exclusive to those devices. They read the device type from the IMEI (for GSM) or the ESN (for CDMA).

You won't get all the Blackberry features such as push email, BB messenger, browser without a blackberry data plan. Since you're with Rogers, you could try calling the data department and ask them to add the code APN3CON to your account which will enable the blackberry features on with your existing data plan.

+1 but good luck with getting the APN3CON added. Some data reps won't do it or have no idea. But trust me it can be done. My buddy did it, took him a few calls.

I have heard of people getting it to work in some form, but it will not work as well as having a true BB data plan, specifically the items that lauriem has referenced.

Oddly enough, for those on AT&T, going from an iPhone to a Bold has had surprising results when attempting to use VisualVoicemail.

actully i have this exact data plan for my blackberry, the people at rogers offered it to me when i bought my bold, and of course i took it up,
my blackberry has gone in for repair a few times (my luck) so i've had to use an iphone 3g, and the data plan works fine on that as well, (seen on bill) so from my experince it shouldn't make any difference! from iphone to blackberry,

Default Apn3con

I got the APN3CON added in one call to Rogers.

Of course I made the call after 5PM ...If you call during business hours your call will be handle by somebody in India........

It is called APN Blackberry.net with GPRS.....

The lady at Rogers exact words are....."I know exactly what you are trying to do! You want your iphone 6gb plan to work for both iphone and blackberry!" ....."If you had a 6gb BB plan you do not need to do anything, it will work with any device"..........and yes some agent will not add it for you......

Unfortunately I do not have the BB to really try it yet....but I have checked my rogers account the same night that I made the call......and voila! it is under the essentials..........0$ APN Blackberry.net w/ GPRS.

I will try it as soon as I get my BB.

Are you in the US? I dunno what "code" you have to tell AT&T Rep but I am in Canada .......so It is working so far for my BB bold.........and Rogers rep told me herself...that adding APN Blackberry.net w/ GPRS willl make my iphone data plan work with Blackberry.

I can guarantee you that you won't be able to use the built-in e-mail.

If you are using AT&T in the US, you will have to have a BB plan added to your account in order to have APN blackberry.net. There is no way around it. It is just the way they have us do things here.
