Default Leap Won't Connect WiFi

Please Login to Remove!

Leap on the Shaw network. Just hooked up a new WiFi modem. WiFi turned on in Leap.

Went to Settings>WiFi>Add. Entered the SSID that came with the modem and tapped saved. Now when I tap on that saved WiFi network it makes a connection attempt (it says 1 of 3) and then returns a message saying connection attempt timed out.

Also, in Settings>Networks and Connections, WiFi shows as Not Connected.

Help please.

Generally WIFI routers have two things that devices such as cell phones are required to configure for access.
The SSID is the routers name
Security number is the code or serial number for access.

Your info indicated you entered the SSID, did you enter the security number?

1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
2. Tap image Settings > Networks and Connections > Wi-Fi.
3. If the Wi-Fi switch is off, turn it on.
4. Tap a network name. (SSID) or manually enter it
If the screen requesting a password appears, enter the password for the Wi-Fi network. Tap Connect.
If you have access to the Wi-Fi router and you want to use Wi-Fi Protected Setup, tap the screen above the keyboard to dismiss the keyboard. Tap The Wi-Fi Protected Setup icon. Complete the instructions on the device screen.

5. Tap Connect.

Thanks for replying. I saw those instructions elsewhere and tried them but they don't work. When I get as far as tapping the network name, it jumps immediately to try to connect (saying it's 1 of 3 attempts), sits for awhile and then displays a message saying the connection timed out.

I do have a pass phrase from Shaw (their terminology) but I never get to a place where I'm prompted or able to enter it.

Any further thoughts? Thanks.

Are you able to connect via WIFI anywhere else? Except open WIFI hotspots 99% of the routers including ones installed in homes require a security code including a SSID.
What is the model of the WIFI router you have? Maybe some checking will help me or another with the answer.

These are the instruction for a Telus router but yours may be different. Regardless , virtually all use the same type of security. Without entering the security number you wont connect.

Thanks for replying. A Telus online chat agent who was actually knowledgeable of BB10 (amazing!!) solved the problem. I had done something wrong on my attempt to set up the home wifi. Deleted that and the Leap immediately detected the shaw wifi modem, prompted me for the password and voila! Connected with no problem. Thanks again.

Glad you have it working. Sounded like a password issue all along.
Security is very important on home routers and none I know of allow access without entering one. Sadly some users shut off the security and live to regret it when they are hacked.
