Ok, so i've had my blackberry cure 8520 for around a year now and have come across a problem involving the phones headphone socket!

last week i plugged in my ipod headphones to use instead of the shipped blackberry headphones and now whenever i plug in the blackberry headphones there is a constant ringing sound which only goes away when i play music. However the music is all muffled and it sounds like there is no singer singing. Now, i've tried other headphones and they all have the same problem apart from my ipod headphones which sound fine. The blackberry headphones work perfectly on other audio devices which has made me come to the conclusion that it is the phone which is broken.

Can anyone shed any light on why this has happened?

The normal pinout for the Iphone does not take into account pin 4 being the MIC control and may be causing issues. It may also be an impedance issue.
Worse case it did something to the BB electronics.
