Changing assigned ringtones failure
Please Login to Remove!
Hey Guys and Gals,
I've searched (so don't flame me) but i can't find a topic dealign with this specific issue. If it is out there, please let me know.
I can create custom ringtones, and I can assign them to contacts, but when I go back in and edit that selection (i.e. I want my wife's ring to be a different one) it doesn't stick. The new choice shows in the contact field, but the old song still plays. Anybody run across this, or a fix for it? Thanks!

Make sure you save that option, don't just close the option....

OS is v.4.2.0.69 (Platform 2.2.0.40)
Cryptographic Kernel is v3.8.4.28
I have pulled the battery multiple times, but no fix. The weird thing is that is shows all signs of having been changed (the contact data is updated to the new ring title) but it still plays the old one. Is there an update for this OS yet?

Dahlor,
I was having the same issue but I fixed it rebooting. I didn't pull the battery. I just uninstalled certain apps and when I finished it asked me to restart it.
Give it a try,

I thought I was having this problem once I had updated to O/S .88, but if the person that calls you has their name or number blocked it doesn't seem to work. Rogers has this option, I don't know if other carriers offer this. If either is blocked, it seems that the Pearl defaults to the main ringtone. I had my friend that has her name and number blocked call me. Default ringer. I had another friend call who doesn't have their name or number blocked, and the assigned ringtone played....I hope this helps, give it a try.

This is a problem with a lot of people, including me. When I change assigned RTs for people (I save them, they show correctly), the old one always rings unless I pull the battery. Then they work. Sometimes they work after a day or so even if I don't pull the battery. It seems that this is a software problem because it happens to so many people.

I ran into this problem but was able to find a solution. All I did was delete the field where the ring tone option is then re-select the desired ringtone....this is what worked for me...hope this helps.

Drives me nuts...both my affected contacts were also myfaves..(wife and brother) couldn't figure out if it was a conflict, because you can set a ringtone in the myfaves profile setting and also in the address book profile.
Battery pull is the only thing that works for me.

I tried doing this, but it didn't work for me. :( I think I may just delete the contact all together, build it from scratch and retry.

I think I got it figured out. I went to profiles, then to advanced. on that screen (at least on the pearl) there's a series of check boxes at the bottom under th heading, Use standard ringtones except for: these check boxes should match all profiles you have assigned a custom ring to. First uncheck the contact who's ring you want to change. Then leave here and go into the address book and edit the contact's ring. It picks up the new one right away after that.

Had both problems on the Pearl.
1. Assigned RT's wouldn't play, only the default ringer.
2. Changed assigned RT's and old tune continued to play.
Battery pulls/Resets did not work. All user error issues were checked and correct.
On OS .64, Tmo USA.
Ended up trying something TMo support suggested.
Fixed issue #1 completely, been about 1 month going strong no recurrence.
Issue #2 started again recently though, so still working on solution for this. Will try suggestion on post #13 and see how goes.
Default RT only fix:
(This will take a while to run.)
1. In Desktop Mgr, goto App Loader.
2. In App selection, don't change anything, but be sure check box is marked for "connected device only".
3. Click next, then instead of finish, choose Advanced.
4. Hit next on Device Preservation screen, do not check any boxes.
5. On Device Backup screen, chose Auto BackUp option, include messages check box too.
6. Now choose finish.
Supposedly, per TMo tech, this simply "scrubs/cleans" the apps and restores them. I am quoting. I would like a more specific explanation of what it does though... Anyone?

This sucks
I have been having the same exact probs. You'd think their developers would figure this one out. And now we have to wait for a software upgrade for this? Unbelievable.
