So, right now I forward a copy of my personal mail to my @carrier.blackberry.net address ... which stinks as I don't reconcile my personal email with Outlook on my pc; I have to process it once on in each place.

I'm debating on forwarding all my mail to a web mail, but was wondering what people's experiences are with reconciliation.

Should I forward and use POP should I use IMAP?

Frankly, I just want reconciliation like I have with my BES mail, but I also can't deal with a 10 minute delay of messages to l to my HH ... forwarding it to my carrier.blackberry.net address gives me instant delivery.

Thoughts / comments / suggestions?

GMail doesn't offer unread mark reconciliation and delete reconciliation from desktop to handheld is too slow.

I should add, that I already have a spam filter on my mailbox that I've customized to myself ... if I get 2 pieces of spam in a day it is a lot. That said, looks like it could be a toss up.

Who is hosting your mail now ? Do you have some provider ? Do you own a domain ?

If you own a domain, forwarding to Yahoo is going to be a bit of a pain. Where are you going to reply from ? Yahoo ? If so, it's going to be tagged as coming from yahoo, even if you set the reply-to header.

Or are you just planning on using Yahoo and dumping your personal email address ?

This is why I went with Google Hosted. Google hosts all my mail and my calendars, for free.

What I do is I treat my BB as a mail reader and quick reply'er.. If you will. I delete all mail that doesn't interest me (mailing lists etc) and leave the rest on my hosted account.

Then when I have the chance, I login to my account via a PC, archive all the mail and reply to the longer messages.. A sort of cleanup.

Yes, it's not ideal.. yes it would be Fab if Google offered true two way sync, but in reality, it's not that big a deal for me in as it's much less of a pain then forwarding all my mail to Yahoo.

Yes.
Many don't realize it does... because it takes HOURS to reconcile.

Huh.. Not that it really matters because I just keep all the mail on my BB anyhow and let it clean up the mail 60 days later..

What I would like though is mark read/unread from Google.

1hr sync for calendars is fine as well as I rarely check my calendar from the desktop..

I'm sure Google will be adding new features. They are in competition with Yahoo!. That Google has decided to go after the Blackberry market is good news.

With IMAP implemented, I give 'em until the end of summer and they'll have implemented the new features to match Yahoo!

Not too shabby though.. Back up a few years and we had none of this.

I host my own email on a virtual linux server. Mail server is running postfix + spamassassin + clamav
