Default Europeans “smarter” than Americans

Please Login to Remove!

Like I usually say to keep my inbox flame retardent: “Don’t shoot the messenger”. And if you read past the headline, you won’t be so up in arms, anyways. Through a valley of links I scrounged up this survey that shows that European consumers purchase more smartphones than Americans. Who sits on top of the list with a plethora of Palms and BlackBerrys?

Having been to Europe, I can't argue with the survey. Their telephone technology is eons ahead of the industry in the US.

Possibly. On the other hand, none of us have elected a shaved chimp as president.

On the original topic, I am surprised that the US did not embrace mobile phone usage as quickly as Europe and parts of Asia.

Nothing's up with that - they're our Royal Family, not yours. What foreigners believe or don't believe about them is of no consequence.

You mean kind of like what foreigners believe or don't believe about our President is of no consequence? Careful what arguments you make, they can come back to haunt you when they're inconsistent.

And on the original topic, I don't think that Europeans are smarter than Americans, nor do I believe that Americans are smarter than Europeans. But there's no doubt that Europe (and Asia) are further along on the adoption curve for smart phones.

Absolute drivel. The Queen, and the rest of the Royal family, play no part in politics.

Tony Bliar, the nearest thing we have to the Shaved Chimp, was elected; though, because of our antiquated electoral system, not by a majority.

@DallasFlier - That America takes no notice of anything other countries says is plain for all to see. I often thought about how Bush and Bliar hadn't listened, as I sat in Iraq in 05.

Are you sitting on your front porch twanging your banjo as you write, Bubba?

I suppose you are referring to the draft-dodging Chimp's failure to respect the UN (which the US is a member of, presumably by choice), before invading Iraq? Of course, our own Dear Leader chose to follow, committing us, on very dodgy grounds indeed, to a war with no exit strategy and no real end in sight.

I'm not sure what you mean by appeasement, however - are you referring to the decision by some countries not to commit troops to a mission that had no UN mandate? Or do you mean Tony Bliar's appeasement of Republican terrorists in Northern Ireland, a policy which appears to have been fully supported by many in the US. They gave money to buy weapons that killed many innocent civilians as well as soldiers; the US failed to extradite wanted terrorists; and the leaders of Sinn Fein/IRA have been welcomed to the White House.

Don't get me wrong. I have family in the US and have visited many times. I admire the way the US looks after its military personnel, especially veterans, something our government has a very poor track record with (though I confess to wishing, through bitter experience, that your soldiers were better trained and better led). I like America, not least because it is a country of so many contrasts. Many Americans are bright, friendly and interesting people. Unfortunately, there are also those who not only demonstrate huge ignorance of world affairs, they are massively arrogant, utterly convinced of their own superiority and determined to force their way of life upon others. It's a shame that some of them are running your government, and, it seems, ours!

All of which does nothing to change the fact that Europe is ahead of the US in mobile and smartphone usage - so there!

America has done more to benefit mankind than the rest of the world combined. The countless billions in foreign aid spread around the globe; the tens of thousands of Americans who died in Western Europe to protect your grandparents from fascism; the single-handed dismantling of the Soviet Union by an American President who, like George Bush, was also called names by people like you; protecting freedom around the world - at great sacrifice - while being called imperialists. Feeding the world with our vast surplus. On and on and on.

The neighbors of the world's sole superpower don't have to erect fences and fortresses to keep us out. Rather, millions continue to sneak into America, seeking - and finding - a better life.

When a foreign despot needs a life saving operation, he sure as heck doesn't fly to Belfast. He comes to Minnesota.

So instead of comparing our President to a simian, just once it would be nice to hear a "thank you" rather than a slur.

Sorry for straying OT. Its especially unsavory from a newby like me. Sometimes I just can't help myself.

cheers!

ChairmanKaga - I'm just having a little good-natured fun with you too. I think you'll find that someone else started the name-calling. I'm afraid your statement about the Royal family was simply incorrect as to fact, though.

You're right, though, that we have wandered off thread too far already, so I will resist the temptation to add more.

So, is mobile and smartphone use in the US catching up, or is it still growing relatively slowly? Does the size of the country present coverage problems?
