The gtalk, yahoo, aol and icq clients on the BB use data. The oz messenging clients use sms and data. And I am talking the stand alone clients. Put it this way the service books for these clients contain ip addresses and hrt tables. The oz messenger is a download the client service books.

Dawg, Important to get the latest update instantly, simply dial #646# and press "send" Only from their T-Mobile phone for FREE on your minutes used any time and as often as you like. isn't that hard??

You have an 8320, why don't you tell us? Send an IM using one of the new IM apps. Then type #MSG# and see for yourself if it counted toward sms.

John C., Ha Ha Ha, Wow, Yes I did dial #MSG#, saying, ZERO, 300 remaining. Bill close: 10/27. You are right that T-Mobile All IMs use DATA.
Thank you and I am SOOOOooo relieved!

Aim Trouble!
Hey everyone,
I'm new here and new to Blackberry as well. So hi. I hope someone can help me.
My phone (8320 tmbobile) came with AIM already installed, but when I got to use AIM on my phone it says "please visit www.blackberry.com/aim to activate your handheld for AOL instant messenger"
When I go to blackberry.com/aim, it doesnt work either! It says "Downloads via a USB connection are not enabled for this product. Please visit our mobile download site at using the browser on your BlackBerry® smartphone."
I dont have internet service on my phone, so i cant visit that site.
What should i do?? if someone could help, id really appreciate it.. thanks!

JiveTalk works over data, and since I don't have a data plan, I am assuming behind your reasoning that's why it doesn't work for me.

Signed up for AIM through service provider, battery pull, sent service books, re-downloaded new OS and still no AIM, but still the same error message. It tells me that I need to go to bb.com/aim and when I do, the site requires that you use windows for activeX, but when I do it on my computer, it says I need to use my mobile phone for download. Any solution for this?

Are you guys sure this is true? What about MMS, is that data?
Even if you don't sign up the data plan, wouldn't you just be charged as if it was SMS? So why would I have to wait for the data plan to kick in?

MMS is not data but requires a data plan in order to get the service book to make it work.
The BB data plan is different than most cell phone data plans. It is a connection to RIM's data service and has to be enabled with purchase of a BB data plan.

I believe you both are mistaken a little. My MMS has always been working and does not require a data plan to work. I get charged $.15 for every MMS message I send, except now where my 9.99 plan (1000 any messages plan) will allow me to send any messages without being charged. SMS, MMS, and IM are (according to T-Mo rep) are not data. The problem I am having is I am able, from the begining, to send SMS amd MMS (except to one person on Verizon) without any problems. I have always had a problem with AIM and just signing on, even with JiveTalk.
Please correct me if I am wrong, as I have been reading threads stating and proving that AIM does not effect there text messages. And the second thing, which I also plan on contacting T-Mo about, is why the "F" is this AIM not working for me. I don't have to have it, but since I know it's there I have to make it work, LOL.
I have the new OS (.180) installed twice, I've done a battery pull several times, I sent and resent service books (before and after deleting it on the phone), etc. Anything else I can try?

Do you have the data plan? If you have the data plan then that is why MMS works for you. MMS is not data but it needs the service books (which require a data plan.)
On the 8320 the preloaded AIM apps use data, not SMS. For JiveTalk to work, you likely need the apn settings entered under Options >Advanced Options >TCP.

My plans:
39.99 1000 anytime (free nights/wknds)
9.99 BB email only
9.99 1000 text messages (includes SMS, MMS and any IM)\
9.99 H@H
I have nothing filled in the APN fields under TCP. Does the host routing table have anything to do with anything?

Just for a bit of clarification, you don't need the data plan for the MMS to work, you could use the "Blackberry Feature Enabler" through T-Mob and still get WAP and MMS
